Abstract: This invention relates to a hair styling device, a hair styling method, and a drive system suitable for use in the hair styling device. The invention relates in particular to a hair styling device (10; 210) for imparting a wave to a section of hair (36) without clamping the section of hair in the wave form. The device has a first forming member (24) and a second forming member (24) with a hair-receiving region (38) between the forming members. A driving member (20; 120) is movable relative to the first forming member and the second forming member to deform the section of hair in the hair-receiving region.

Abstract: A hair styling device is described, for waving hair by forming a length of hair into a wave form. A first forming member, a second forming member and a third forming member are located within a chamber of the device. There is a first hair-receiving region between the first and second forming members and a second hair-receiving region between the second and third forming members. A first driving member drives a portion of the length of hair into the first hair-receiving region and a second driving member drives another portion of the length of hair into the second hair-receiving region. The first and second driving members move independently and sequentially so as to reduce the tension applied to the length of hair.

A rotatable element (26) is adapted to engage the length of hair adjacent to the opening and to wind the length of hair around a protrusion within the chamber. A first hair-straightening panel (44) and a second hair-straightening panel (46) are provided, the first hair-straightening panel and the second hair-straightening panel facing one another and defining a passage (50) through which the length of hair passes as it leaves the chamber, the first hair-straightening panel and the second hair-straightening panel being movable relative to one another.
