  • Patent number: 8747034
Abstract: The boring head has a tool body (2, 38), to which two cutter holders (3, 4; 22, 23) arranged offset from one another by 180° are fastened. The cutter holders (3, 4; 22, 23) are mounted on a clamping surface (11, 26) in a slidable manner for radially adjusting the cutters (5). The clamping surface (11, 26) has a first partial clamping surface (11a, 26a) for the one cutter holder (3, 4; 22, 23) and a second partial clamping surface (11b, 26b) for the other cutter holder (3, 4; 22, 23). These two partial clamping surfaces (11a, 11b; 26a, 26b) are offset in the axial direction by a certain extent. The two cutter holders (3, 4; 22, 23) have different heights with respect to the cutters (5) in accordance with this extent and in addition can be optionally fastened to and radially adjusted on the first partial clamping surface (11a, 26a) or the second partial clamping surface (11b, 26b). The boring head permits the conventional roughing work and is especially stable while being produced at a low cost.

  • Patent number: 7585139
Abstract: The boring tool has a tool body (2) on which a tool carrier (10) is mounted in a radially adjustable manner. A setting member (42) serves to set the boring diameter. A drive mechanism converts a rotation of the setting member (42) into a displacement of the tool carrier (10). The drive mechanism has a differential spindle (13) which converts a rotation of a graduated disk (26) into a displacement of the tool carrier (10) for the fine setting of the boring diameter. The differential spindle (13) is mounted in a bore (51) of the tool carrier (10) and extends at right angles to the rotation axis (A).

  • Patent number: 7407349
Abstract: The boring tool having a basic body (2) in which a tool bit (27) is arranged which has a cutting edge (29) at a front end (27b). The basic body (2) has an opening (3) in which the tool bit (27) is pivotably mounted. Setting means (7) serve to set the pivoted position of the tool bit (27) relative to the basic body (2). Means (16) serve to fix the tool bit (27) in the set pivoted position. The tool bit (27) is pivotable about a pivot point (P) which is essentially neutral in terms of unbalance. The tool bit (27) is preferably connected at a rear end (27a) to a radially adjustable slide (7). The slide (7) can be finely adjusted radially, for example with a micrometer screw (9).

  • Patent number: 7281888
Abstract: The tool exhibits a first tool part (2) and a second tool part (3), which possess a common axis of rotation (A). The first tool part (2) is provided with an alignment pin (4) and exhibits at its root an annular surface (5). The second tool part (3) possesses an axial bore (7) to receive the alignment pin (4) and an annular surface (6), which is capable of being tensioned against the annular surface (5) of the first tool part (2). • Patent number: 6183174
Abstract: On a tool body at least one bit carrier is mounted capable of sliding. Clamping means are provided for clamping the bit carrier against a clamp plate of the tool body. A catch plate of the tool body operates with a corresponding catch plate of the bit carrier for transmission of torque. The tool body at a distance from its catch plate has a slanted outer wedge surface against which the a slanted wedge surface of the bit carrier is clamped. The wedge surface of the tool body exerts a radial clamping force on the bit carrier which clamps the catch plate surface of the bit carrier radially against the catch plate surface of the tool body.

  • Patent number: 5909986
Abstract: The boring head has a fine movement mechanism for the tool support and a counterweight mounted in the tool body. In order to compensate for imbalance during the adjustment of the cutting tool, the counterweight is moved automatically in the opposite direction by means of a transmission device. The tool support, the counterweight, and the setting screw of the fine movement mechanism can all be simultaneously clamped firmly to the clamping organ.

  • Patent number: 5902078
Abstract: In the tool body (2), a tool support (4) for a cutting-plate holder (6) is mounted capable of fine radial movements. To compensate for imbalance, a balancing device (30) is provided which has at least two weight bodies (20, 21) movable in opposite circumferential directions within the tool body (2) in essentially the same plane. In certain embodiments, each of the two weight bodies (20, 21) forms approximately one-fourth of a circular ring.

  • Patent number: 5857811
Abstract: For the purpose of rigid connection of the cutter holder (9) to the tool carrier (5), the tool carrier (5) has a driving key (11) on its end side, which driving key is inserted into a corresponding transverse groove (13). The driving key (11) has a specified excess size compared to the transverse groove (13), such that when a setscrew (10) is tightened the tool carrier (5) and the cutter holder (9) are elastically deformed. Laterally next to the transverse groove (13) the surface of the cutter holder (9) is supported on the tool carrier (5).

  • Patent number: 4955767
Abstract: A boring attachment has a boring head with a transversely adjustable slide for setting the boring cutter. The slide has a bore for receiving (clamping) a holding device, at a length which is adjustable in the axial direction, so that the holding device is longitudinally displaceable by an amount equaling at least twice the diameter of the recess. Loading at the cutter holder is essentially completely eliminated when the holding device is located in a transversely displaced position which is within the principle operating range of the boring head by providing appropriate bores in the body of the boring head. A relatively small overall height for the boring head contributes to optimal stability of the boring attachment.

  • Patent number: 4547103
Abstract: The boring tool has an insert upon which one or two boring heads are slidably guided along a swallowtail track. For fixing the boring heads in position, set screws are provided which are adapted to bear against the clamping surfaces of the insert. To preclude radial sliding of the boring heads, even when the set screws are only partially tightened, the clamping surfaces are inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the insert, and the spacing of the clamping surfaces from the longitudinal axis increases toward the ends of the insert.

  • Patent number: 4398854
Abstract: The boring head has a tool holder in which the cutting tool is retained by a clamping screw. The tool holder is radially adjustable by an adjustment screw having a fine thread. The adjustment screw has a flange and a pressed-on knob which bears an adjustment scale. Between the knob and the flange, the annular portion of an insert is introduced, free of axial play. The annular portion of the insert is connected to the boring head by a set screw. The insert with the annular portion also is provided with a clamping lip which can be pressed against the tool holder by a locking screw. The tool holder with its fine adjustment can be separately mounted and constitutes an easily replaceable unit.

  • Patent number: 4231691
Abstract: The head has a transverse groove in its leading face in which two cutting blade holders with interchangeable cutting blades are clamped by means of a set screw. After loosening of the set screw, the cutting blade holders can be radially and axially adjusted by means of adjusting screws. This enables precise positioning of the cutting blades, to eliminate unequal chip formation, and rough operation due to unequal loading of the blades.
