Abstract: In a cryogenic apparatus wherein the refrigerator has a reciprocable displacer which must be coordinated with fluid control means, such as a rotary valve, to control the inlet and exhausting of high and low pressure fluid, respectively, to produce cooling, an improvement is disclosed comprising including means for providing proper coordination between displacer movement and fluid control means regardless of the direction in which the motor drive shaft is rotated.
Abstract: An improved cold neutron radiographic apparatus and method are disclosed wherein neutron temperature is matched to the specific material to be examined. This can be done, in one embodiment, by placing a radioactive source of neutrons, such as californium 252, in a moderator such as solid methane and using a cryogenic refrigeration system to cool the moderator to any pre-selected cryogenic temperature.
Abstract: A filter-bed assembly comprises two adjacent beds each including adsorbent materials held between perforate sheets. The perforate sheets form the sides of the beds and have upstanding pleats therein to add rigidity thereto and to serve as spacers between the beds. Some of the pleats extend into the adsorbent material, and others of the pleats extend away from the adsorbent material toward the adjacent bed.
