The adhesives harden after a short time to give stable adhesive bonds, even in the presence of moisture.

    Abstract: A process for the continuous production of triacetin consisting essentially of continuously charging liquid glycerol into a first liquid reaction area through which acetic acid vapors and water vapors flow, said liquid reaction area being divided into a number of separate individual areas through which liquid glycerol and liquid acetin reaction products flow in one direction and gaseous acetic acid and water flow in a countercurrent direction, continuously charging acetic acid vapor to a separate individual area where said liquid mixture has an OH number of less than 600, continuously separating a liquid mixture of acetins and water having an OH number of less than 600, continuously passing said liquid mixture into a second liquid reaction area, continuously adding thereto liquid acetic acid anhydride in an amount sufficient to react with water dissolved in said liquid mixture to form acetic acid and to react with monoacetin and diacetin present to form triacetin and continuously recovering triacetin.

    Abstract: A stabilized thermoplastic composition comprised of polyvinyl chloride or mixed polymers containing mainly vinyl chloride units together with stabilizers and other conventional additives employed in thermoplastic compositions, which have as major stabilizer component, a content of 0.02 to 5 parts by weight of aliphatic polyhydroxyl compounds containing 4 to 6 OH-groups per 100 parts by weight of polymer. These polyhydroxyl compounds should contain at least one carboxyl and/or carbonyl group and/or double bond. Suitable compounds are gluconic acid, glucuronic acid, ketogluconic acid, ascorbic acid or the alkali metal salts or alkaline earth salts of the mentioned acids.Other conventional processing additives may be present. The invention concerns also a process for the manufacture of pipes, profiles, foils, hollow parts by hot forming, with the use of the mentioned additives, and the additional use of paraffin, free fatty acid, epoxidized soybean oil or higher molecular weight ester wax.

    Abstract: A process for the partial reduction of C21-steroid carboxylic acids and their esters to C21-steroid alcohols and new C21-steroid alcohols.DELTA.4,17(20)-C21-steroid carboxylic acids optionally containing further double bonds in the 1- and/or 9(11)-position and their esters corresponding to general formula I below ##STR1## in which R represents hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical and A represents hydrogen, hydroxyl or, together with the C-atom substituted by A, a carbonyl group and in which, finally, the substituent A may even be replaced by an additional olefinic double bond in the 9(11)-position, are reacted with diisobutyl aluminium hydride without the A-ring in the steroid skeleton being blocked in such quantities that all the oxygen-containing functional groups are reduced to the hydroxyl group. The aluminium-containing intermediate reaction product is then subjected to the selective Oppenauer oxidation to form the 3-keto compound. The 3-oxo-C21-steroid alcohols may be obtained in high yields in this way.

More particularly, this invention relates to a process for the preparation of solid, crystalline, substantially anhydrous sodium metasilicate which comprises the steps of:(a) reacting an SiO.sub.2 -containing material with a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide in an SiO.sub.2 to Na.sub.2 O molar ratio of from about 1.2:1 to 1:1.2 under elevated pressure and at an elevated temperature, to form a sodium metasilicate suspension;(b) filtering the suspension from step (a) to obtain a filter cake and filtrate;(c) crushing the filter cake from step (b) at elevated temperature;(d) removing water from the crushed filter cake to recover substantially anhydrous sodium metasilicate;(e) concentrating the filtrate from step (b); and(f) returning the concentrated filtrate from step (e) to the reaction mixture of step (a).

    Abstract: A process for the purification of cold-water soluble cellulose ethers containing alkali metal halides consisting essentially of suspending a cold-water-soluble cellulose ether crude reaction product containing 25% by weight or more of alkali metal halides, based on the dry weight, in an aqueous solution containing from 4% to about 25% by weight of one or more water-soluble salts of acids selected from the group consisting of polybasic inorganic acids and organic polycarboxylic acids with agitation at a temperature of from 10.degree. C. to 50.degree. C., separating the purified cellulose ether solids and optionally repeating the suspending and separating steps one or more times. The resulting material can be employed in washing and cleansing composition slurries for spray-drying. The process is especially suitable for the treatment of methyl cellulose or water-soluble mixed ethers of methyl or ethyl cellulose with a sodium sulfate solution.
