Abstract: A method of removing nitrogen from an aqueous solution by simultaneous microbial nitrification and dentrification comprising treating the aqueous solution in one or more fixed bed reactors containing a porous carrier material having nitrifying and denitrifying microorganisms fixed thereto, and using an ammonium selective ion exchanger as carrier material.
