  • Patent number: 6908399
Abstract: A set of golf clubs wherein the club length varies between adjacent clubs in the set by at least about 0.6 inches (15.24 mm), and preferably about 0.75 inches (19 mm). Preferably, the lie angle between adjacent clubs in the set varies by greater than about 0.6 degrees, and preferably by about 0.75 degrees. More preferably, the club head weight varies between adjacent clubs in the set by at least about 8 grams, and preferably by between about 9 grams and 11 grams. The club length and lie angle of the 9-iron can approximately equivalent to the club length and lie angle of a prior art 9-iron. For a first standard set of clubs, the 1-iron has an exemplary club length of approximately 41.5 inches (105.4 mm), and the 9-iron has an exemplary club length of approximately 35.5 inches (90.17 mm). The 1-iron has an exemplary lie angle of approximately 57 degrees, while the 9-iron has an exemplary lie angle of approximately 63 degrees.

  • Patent number: 6102811
Abstract: A lie board used for fitting golf clubs to golfers having a crested portion. In one embodiment the upper surface of the lie board is curved convexly with respect to the lower surface of the lie board. The crested portion can include the entire lie board, or only the portion where contact between the sole of the club and the board is anticipated. The crested portion can have curvature in only a single direction, or it can be curved in orthogonal directions to produce an essentially dome-shaped lie board. When only a single direction of curvature is used, the curvature is preferably in the intended general direction of the travel of the club head across the lie board.

  • Patent number: 5582552
Abstract: A golf ball flight angle demonstration device includes a rigid body including integral first and second simulated golf club heads with bottom sole surfaces extending between heel and toe ends. A first club face is located on the first simulated golf club head on a plane set at a first loft angle. A second club face is provided on the second simulated golf club head on a plane set at a second loft angle that is greater than the first loft angle. The club faces are oriented in relation to one another such that the planes of the first and second faces intersect along a reference line substantially parallel to a line tangent either of the sole surfaces at a reference face centerline extending through either club face.

  • Patent number: 5380009
Abstract: A golf club head using a hollow structural shell is provided with a continuous transverse notch formed by a recessed wall extending transversely across the lower edge of the club face. The recessed wall joins the sole surface of the club head behind the club face. It reduces the upright span of the club face without modifying its overall height.

  • Patent number: 4932662
Abstract: A means and method for testing the lie angle of a golf club to see if it is suitable for use by an individual golfer. A golf ball is situated on a support surface and addressed by a golfer holding a traial golf club whose lower surface has received in abradable coating. The golfer swings at the golf ball bringing the abradable coating on the golf club into contact with the surface originally supporting the ball. This contact causes abrasions in the abradable coating and the position of these abrasions indicates whether the lie angle of the particular club undergoining test is proper for the golfer.
