  • Patent number: 6955831
Abstract: A process for preparation of nutritionally upgraded oilseed meals which are protein and lipid-rich and have a reduced fiber content, and plant oils from oilseeds for use in fish or other non-human animal diets or human foods comprising the steps of: providing a source of oilseed; subjecting the oilseed to heat treatment to substantially reduce the concentration of at least some antinutritional components normally present in the oilseed to obtain heat-treated seed; dehulling the heat-treated seed to produce a meat fraction, a hull fraction or a mixture thereof; and cold pressing the meat fraction or the mixture to yeild the plant oils and the protein and lipid-rich meals.

  • Patent number: 5644077
Abstract: An ocean profiler that utilizes ocean wave energy to provide power for repeated ascent and descent of an oceanographic instrument. In one embodiment the instrument assembly is provided with either positive or negative buoyancy such that the instrument can traverse one half of the travel cycle rapidly utilizing the buoyancy force. Utilizing wave power for instrument traversing greatly reduces the power requirement of the apparatus allowing extended unattended operation.

  • Patent number: 5378851
Abstract: A system for handling a remote vessel from a mother vessel comprising: a messenger/manipulating line intercepting member extending upwardly from the remote vessel; a line capturing device associated with the line intercepting member; line traversing device for transferring the line to the line capturing device; a messenger/manipulating line associated with the mother vessel for engaging the line intercepting device and capturing by the line capturing device of the remote vessel; and a winch associated with the messenger/manipulating line for manipulating the remote vessel. For one embodiment of the invention, the system may additionally include a line capturing and lifting hook attached to the remote vessel; a hoisting winch and hoisting cable with hook for attachment to the lifting hook attached to the remote vessel; and a second messenger line for releasable attachment to the hoisting cable for capture by the lifting hook and to provide attachment of the hoisting cable to the lifting hook.
