  • Patent number: 7098956
Abstract: For the video recording of a field illuminated by a lamp, especially a surgical lamp, where at least one light beam for illuminating the field emerges from a light exit area of a lamp housing in the direction of a predetermined housing axis, the optical axis of a video camera mounted with freedom to swivel a certain distance away from the exit point of the light beam is shifted automatically by a positioning element until the axis at least approximately intersects the light beam in the area of the illuminated field. The positioning element is driven by signals from a control unit. The video camera is preferably shifted in a stepwise manner. The distance to the illuminated field is determined by the fine focusing of the camera by the autofocus function, and then signals are transmitted from the control unit to the positioning element of the camera to compensate for the parallax between the optical axis of the camera and the light beam or beams emerging from the lamp.

  • Patent number: 6582092
Abstract: A lamp, in particular a lamp for medical applications (operating lamps), having at least one light source, and at least two reflectors, is provided where in order to form a low-shadow illuminated area, light emerging from the lamp impinges upon the illuminated area by at least two different angles of incidence, such that the angles of incidence of the light can be adjusted by changing the distance between the at least two reflectors or between one reflector and the source of the light. The at least two reflectors may be arranged so that they can shift in the radial direction on carrier rails that extend radially from the center of the lamp. In this arrangement, the reflectors always lie on a common circular circumference, and the reflectors can be shifted through manually activated gears or through electric drive motors.

  • Patent number: 6572234
Abstract: To achieve great security against failure in lamps for medical applications, especially lamps for surgery, two electric bulbs are placed each in a concave mirror of ellipsoidal shape as part of a reflector, the two concave mirrors having focal points which are aligned with one another along an optical axis. The concave mirror provided to serve as the main lamp is configured as a ring reflector, while the concave mirror designed to operate as a reserve lamp closes off the reflector on the side facing away from the direction of emergence of the light. Thus, in the event of a change from main lamp operation to reserve lamp operation, the illuminated field is maintained at least approximately in its size and the location does not change (X and Y directions).

  • Patent number: 6120529
Abstract: To heat horizontal surfaces on which patients are placed after surgery, an irradiation apparatus with halogen lamps is provided, the radiation of which is directed toward the horizontal surface to heat it. The surface temperature prevailing in the irradiated area of the horizontal resting surface is detected by a pyrometric sensor as long-wave infrared radiation. This temperature value is used as the controlled variable and is compared with a predetermined nominal value, such as 37.degree. C. In the event of a deviation, a control signal corrects the irradiation intensity by adjusting the power supply to the halogen lamps.

  • Patent number: 5934888
Abstract: An aspirator pump, especially for medical purposes, has a receptacle with two chambers arranged alongside each other, which are connected with a suction tube, and on each of which an element is arranged which is movable approximately parallel to the other, each partially enclosing a hollow space for generating a vacuum. The two movable elements are connected to each other by means of a lever, whose two end parts are attached at the upper area of the respective movable elements, and whose middle part is movably attached in a bearing positioned between the chambers. In the upper area of each movable element a one way valve is installed which opens when the pressure in the hollow space is higher than the surrounding air pressure. An easy operation and cleaning, as well as a reliable aspiration is obtained with the aspirator pump, owing to the fact that at all times a chamber and a movable element enclose a common, variable hollow space, wherein the movable element bounds the upper area of the hollow space.

  • Patent number: 5808680
Abstract: A field-of-operation illuminating fixture with a video camera in the vicinity of a lamp housing for displaying the field. The video signals emitted by the camera are forwarded along with signals for controlling the camera over the same cable that transmits power to the lamps. The cable extends through the mechanism that the housing is suspended from, such as being extended from a ceiling. The cable is in sections connected by rotating contacts in the form of slip rings at the articulations between a suspension boom and arms. Video signals and camera-control signals are modulated before entering the cable by a module in the ceiling-mounted base of the fixture and are demodulated in another module after leaving the cable. The video signals are processed in a separate accessory. The present invention provides a cost-effective design for a field-of-operation illuminating fixture equipped for video and simple modification of fixtures already equipped therewith.

  • Patent number: 5743628
Abstract: A field-of-operation illuminating device has at least one discharge lamp concentrically surrounded by several halide incandescent lamps at its bottom, which faces the field of operation. The discharge lamp is accommodated in a stationary reflector and illuminates the recesses of the field. The incandescent lamps are mounted in reflectors that can be adjusted so that their beams will overlap in the field. In the event of power outage or failure of the mains, power is supplied to the lamps from a battery-supported substitute source. The incandescent lamps, due to their thermal inertia, continue to burn almost uninterruptedly, whereas the discharge lamp remains off long enough to cool-down before being restarted. The advantages are less heat during normal operation and immediate availability of the incandescent lamps in an emergency.
