    Abstract: An elongated light source envelope is disclosed. The elongated light source comprises an inner wall and an outer wall formed around a longitudinal axis. The inner wall and the outer wall may be connected at a first axial end by a first side wall and a second axial end by a second side wall. The inner wall, outer wall, the first side wall, and the second side wall define an enclosed space internal to the envelope. The light source envelope further comprises one or more walls formed between the inner wall and the outer wall to further form at least a first enclosed region and a second enclosed region within the enclosed space. The first enclosed region may be configured to emit a different spectrum of ultraviolet radiation from the second enclosed region in response to excitation of the first enclosed region and the second enclosed region by microwave radiation.

The top assembly is configured to be releasably fastened to the bottom assembly about the vacuum tube with removable fasteners.

    Abstract: A lamp head module includes a high aspect ratio, high fill factor array of light emitting devices and a submount. The array includes multiple groups of electrically seriesed light emitting devices that are connected in electrical parallel. The submount is of monolithic construction and includes multiple L-shaped patterned circuit material layers. Each of the L-shaped patterned circuit material layers includes an arm portion and a stem portion. The arm portion functions as a light emitting device bond pad and the stem portion functions as a wire bond pad and a circuit trace. Each light emitting device of a group is affixed to a corresponding arm portion of the submount. The stem portions are located external to the array, run parallel to the length of the array and perform a primary current carrying function for current flow between adjacent light emitting devices of the group.

    Abstract: Micro-channel-cooled UV curing systems and components thereof are provided. According to one embodiment, a lamp head module includes an optical macro-reflector, an array of LEDs and a micro-channel cooler assembly. The array is positioned within the reflector and has a high fill factor and a high aspect ratio. The array provides a high irradiance output beam pattern having a peak irradiance of greater than 25 W/cm2 at a work piece surface at least 1 mm away from an outer surface of a window of the reflector. The micro-channel cooler assembly maintains a substantially isothermal state among p-n junctions of the LEDs at less than or equal to 80° Celsius. The micro-channel cooler assembly also provides a common anode substrate for the array. A thermally efficient electrical connection is formed between the array and the common anode substrate by mounting the array to the micro-channel cooler assembly.

    Abstract: A power supply for use in a UV curing lamp assembly is disclosed. The power supply is powered by two intermediate frequency (200-400 Hz) low voltage sinusoidal power sources that drive the primary windings of a dual laminated transformer. The low voltage sinusoidal power sources are configured to have different phases. The out-of-phase low voltage sine wave sources are converted to high voltage sine waves on the secondary windings of the dual laminated transformer having the same phase difference relationship. A single rectifier comprising six high voltage diodes, called a ladder rectifier, combine the two out-of-phase sine waves into a single, approximately DC output power source. By modulating a phase difference between two input sine wave power sources, the approximate DC output voltage exiting the ladder rectifier may be alternated between a low ripple mode of about a 13.84% ripple, a high current mode, a high voltage mode, and an intermediate mode with a ripple in the range of about 13.84% to about 100%.

    Abstract: A light source having a substantially elliptical cross-section for UV curing lamp assemblies is disclosed. The light source has a pair of end sections and a central section of smaller diameter than the end sections. The end sections are each connected to the central section by a tapered section the diameter of each of which decreases from an end that mates with an end section toward an end that mates with the central section. Each of the end sections has a substantially elliptical cross-section. The central section and the tapered sections may have a substantially elliptical cross-section. The aspect ratio of the elliptical cross-section of the end sections and the central section of the light source is preferably about 2:1.
