Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a composite article from a composite material. The apparatus comprising: a pulsed broadband radiation source comprising a flashlamp and a light guide adapted to guide light emitted by the pulsed broadband radiation source to a target area. The light guide comprises at least a portion ahead of the pulsed broadband radiation source, relative to the target area, comprising a light transmitting material.

Abstract: A flash lamp is disclosed including an insulative envelope containing a gas and housing a pair of arcing electrodes and characterized by an instance of isolated conductive material being formed at a predetermined location on the inside of the envelope adjacent an electrode. Further disclosed is a corresponding method of manufacturing a flash lamp and apparatus for the same.

Abstract: A method is provided for formation of a glass to metal seal at one end of a quartz lamp tube, as part of the process of manufacturing a complete lamp tube. The method involves a direct sealing of the tube of quartz glass with a seal material surrounding an electrode or its electrical feed through. The seal material may be in the form of a bead having a generally elliptical or spherical shape.
Abstract: A laser excitation lamp has a discharge tube and a hot cathode in the shape of a pin. The gas space is reduced in the region of the pin cathode. A method is also provided for production of the lamp, in which the gas space or the free cross section around the cathode is reduced by another processing step. The laser excitation lamp may be used as a pumping light source for lasing media.
Abstract: A high-pressure discharge lamp has a pressure chamber with two opposite end regions and delimited by a cylindrical envelope made of glass. An electrode is provided at each of the two end regions, the electrodes projecting into the pressure chamber and being arranged in the pressure chamber as anode and cathode. A discharge chamber is formed between the electrodes. The two end regions of the pressure chamber are designed differently at least outside of the discharge chamber.
