    Abstract: A personal care composition is composed of: (a) from about 0.1% to about 99% by weight of a vehicle system which comprises a hydrophobically modified nonionic water soluble polysaccharide polymer which comprises a water soluble polysaccharide polymer backbone and a hydrophobic moiety selected from the group consisting of 3-alkoxy-2-hydroxypropyl group wherein the allyl moiety is a straight or branch chain having 2-6 carbon atoms, C3-C7 alky aryl alkyl, alkyl aryl groups and mixtures thereof, wherein the ratio of the hydrophilic portion to the hydrophobic portion of the polymer is from about 2:1 to 1000:1, and (b) at least one other personal care ingredient. This compostion can be used in a wide range of personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, hair coloring and styling agents, soaps, body washing agents, underarm products, lubricating agents, oral care products, denture adhesives, sunscreen agents, make-up products, and the like.

A method for improving the pumpability and pourability of aqueous solutions of thickener of a hydrophobically modified aminoplast polyether or hydrophobically modified non-urethane polyethers which is provided by admixing a cyclodextrin with the thickener to form a complex of the cyclodextrin and thickener where the viscosity of the thickener is suppressed and adding the complexed admixture to an aqueous system containing a water-insoluble polymer wherein the cyclodextrin is decomplexed and the thickener becomes an effective thickener. An example of the uses for this composition and method is in film forming coatings such as latex paints.

    Abstract: This invention provides a light white mineral oil-based fluidized polymer suspension (FPS) composition for use as a rheology modifier in paper coatings. It has been found that by using a selected composition of low viscosity oil as a carrier, high solids content and environmental friendly fluidized polymer suspensions of water soluble cellulose derivatives, synthetic water soluble polymers, guar gum and derivatives, starch and derivatives and mixtures thereof, can be prepared. The FPS of the present invention was found to provide unexpected beneficial performance properties when added as a rheology modifier to a paper coating containing standard binders, pigment, and water. The oil-based fluid polymer suspension composition of the present invention for use as a rheology modifier in the paper coating comprises: a hydrophilic polymer, b) an organophilic clay, c) a surfactant stabilizer, and d) a light white mineral oil having selected properties.
