Patents Assigned to Hersham Valves LTD
  • Patent number: 6305349
Abstract: A sliding gate exhaust brake assembly comprising a gate located within an housing, the gate being moveable between an open position and a closed position to open and close an exhaust outlet. A first closeable pressure relief passage is provided for relieving exhaust gas pressure on the gate during opening of the gate and a second closeable pressure relief passage is provided for reducing exhaust gas pressure on the gate during closing of the gate. In a preferred embodiment the housing is divided into an input chamber and an exhaust chamber by a partition wall having an aperture closeable by the gate. The first pressure relief passage is provided by an closeable aperture through the gate and the second pressure relief passage is provided by a second closeable aperture in the partition wall.

  • Patent number: 4669585
Abstract: A slidable gate assembly is to be mounted on an exhaust brake having a housing with aligned inlet and outlet apertures to allow the passage of exhaust gas through the housing. The flow of exhaust gas is controlled by a slidable valve gate forming part of the slidable gate assembly and having an exhaust gas relief passage therethrough. The valve gate is mounted on one end of the piston rod and at that same end there is provided a closure device for opening and closing the exhaust gas relief passage in the valve gate. A biasing force applied through the piston rod, preferably by a coil spring, biases the closure device towards a closed condition of the exhaust gas relief passage. The piston rod is movable relative to the valve gate to open the exhaust gas relief passage through the valve gate in dependance upon the force applied by the biasing spring. The closure device is forced to an open condition by the pressure of exhaust gas applied through the exhaust gas relief passage to the closure device.

  • Patent number: 4556027
Abstract: An exhaust braking system used with an internal combustion engine has an inlet valve an exhaust valve, an exhaust brake connected in an exhaust system connected with the exhaust valve, and an actuator connected in a fluid circuit with the exhaust brake. The exhaust brake is closed to retard the rotational speed of the engine and an induction valve connected in an induction passage to the inlet valve and in the fluid circuit with the exhaust brake is also operated to facilitate engine speed retardation. Timing apparatus is connected with the induction valve and exhaust brake to ensure the exhaust brake is closed no later than the closing of the induction valve, while a non-return valve is connected in the induction passage to facilitating an increase in pressure within a piston cylinder of the engine and hence increase the engine retardation. A pressure sensitive device connected in the induction passage or exhaust system controls the maximum pressure of the braking system.
