  • Patent number: 7076688
Abstract: Failure investigation in a SAN providing virtual volumes requires a high degree of knowledge from the SAN administrator, who also evaluates the relative severities of failure events from different devices. The SAN manager obtains information from management agents in the devices. Using this information, the SAN manager manages the association between the server and the virtual volumes and the real volumes. The SAN manager receives failure messages from multiple devices and uses the association and a failure analysis dictionary table to determine the contents of the failure messages and associations between failure messages. Failures that are causal failure are displayed. The SAN manager is equipped with a conversion table for converting failure messages issued from different storage devices to a common severity. When a failure message is received, a notification is sent to a high-level program and to an administrator based on the common severity defined in the conversion table.

  • Patent number: 7022183
Abstract: To improve the laser annealing process for polycrystallizing amorphous silicon to form silicon thin films having large crystal particle diameters at a high throughput, the present invention is directed to a process of crystallization by irradiation of a semiconductor thin film formed on a substrate with pulsed laser light. The process comprises having a means to shape laser light into a linear beam and a means to periodically and spatially modulate the intensity of pulsed laser in the direction of the long axis of the linear beam by passing through a phase-shifting stripy pattern perpendicular to the long axis, and collectively forming for each shot a polycrystalline film composed of crystals which have grown in a certain direction over the entire region irradiated with the linear beam.

  • Patent number: 6336034
Abstract: A mobile communication system which includes an exchange, a plurality of base stations, and a plurality of radio telephone sets communicatable with the associated base stations. In order to suppress or reduce call loss caused by traffic congestion or by faulty one of the base stations, an uncommunicatable service area of the faulty base station is covered by the other working base stations. The exchange detects operation states of all the base stations, searches a base-station state pattern table within the exchange for base-station control data suitable for the operation states to read out the base-station control pattern, and transmits the read-out base-station control data to the base stations to cause radio service areas of the base stations to be set to have desired radiation patterns according to the read-out base-station control data.

  • Patent number: 6290402
Abstract: An optical transmission module or an optical module has a receptacle attached adjacent to an optical component module or package, and a plug configured to connect vertically with the receptacle from above the module. The outer peripheral shape of the housing is designed to fit within an area of the receptacle that faces upwardly to receive the plug in an insertion direction extending vertically downwardly. In the housing of the plug, a ferrule is attached to an end of an optical fiber and a sleeve covers the optical fiber and the ferrule. A knob is used for moving the optical fiber, the sleeve and the ferrule in the lightwave propagation direction, which is transverse to the plug insertion direction. Before connecting the plug, the knob is retracted to pull the ferrule and the sleeve within the plug housing.

  • Patent number: 6281071
Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit device having a switching MISFET, and a capacitor element formed over the semiconductor substrate, such as a DRAM, is disclosed. In a first aspect of the present invention, the impurity concentration of the semiconductor region of the switching MISFET to which the capacitor element is connected is less than the impurity concentration of semiconductor regions of MISFETs of peripheral circuitry. In a second aspect, the Y-select signal line overlaps the lower electrode layer of the capacitor element. In a third aspect, a potential barrier layer, provided at least under the semiconductor region of the switching MISFET to which the capacitor element is connected, is formed by diffusion of an impurity for a channel stopper region. In a fourth aspect, the dielectric film of the capacitor element is co-extensive with the capacitor electrode layer over it.

  • Patent number: 6278582
Abstract: For removing re-deposited particulates produced during an etching process of a magnetic head slider and forming a minute chamfered portion, a polishing process is carried out by using polishing cloth such as non-woven polyester fabric after having formed rails of non-linear shape on a floating surface by the etching process. Thus, the re-deposited particulates produced during the etching process are removed, whereby the reliability of the floating characteristic of magnetic head is improved.

  • Patent number: 6275941
Abstract: A plurality of application servers, a client, an integrated authentication server and a security information management server are connected to a network. A user having different combinations of user ID's and passwords or certificates for a plurality of kinds of services processed by the plurality of application servers makes requests for services to the individual application servers through the client by using a common integrated certificate. An application server receiving the integrated certificate from the client transfers it to the integrated authentication server. The integrated authentication server checks information of the security information management server to decide whether the right of the user to access the service is valid and when valid, transmits to the application server a combination of a user ID of the user and a password or a certificate concerning the service.
