  • Patent number: 5772278
Abstract: A wall-avoiding recliner chair has a chair base, a seat and a linkage structure mounting the seat on the base to move between sitting, TV and fully extended positions. The linkage structure utilizes a carrier element in conjunction with a first linkage arrangement mounting the seat on the carrier element and a second linkage arrangement mounting the carrier element on the base. The first linkage arrangement is pivotable with respect to the carrier element to move the seat from the sitting position to the TV position substantially without movement of the carrier element and the second linkage element relative to the base. The second linkage arrangement is pivotable with respect to the base when in the TV position to move the carrier element, the seat and the first linkage arrangement from the TV position to the fully extended position substantially without movement of the carrier element and the first linkage arrangement relative to the seat.

  • Patent number: 5656678
Abstract: A polyurethane foam is produced by mixing foam forming chemicals with the mixing being effected to produce an unfoamed liquid mixture and then feeding the unfoamed liquid mixture into an open-topped trough in which the liquid mixture remains for a dwell time during which an exothermic and gas-forming reaction occurs and the liquid begins to foam and for a partially foamed froth. The volume of the open-topped trough and the dwell time of the foam forming chemicals in the trough are adjusted by tilting the trough. The partially foamed froth is discharged across a curved lip portion at the top of the open-topped trough on to a surface on which the foamed froth is allowed to further react and form a solid polyurethane foam material. The curved lip portion is shaped to minimize shear forces and stresses in the foam and ensure smooth overflow of the foamed froth at different tilt angles.

  • Patent number: 5450637
Abstract: A folding sofa bed frame having head, intermediate and foot bed sections pivotally connected end-to-end and constrained by a linkage arrangement to move in a predetermined pattern between a folded position and a horizontally extended position. A transverse mattress support bar is affixed to a pivoting bell crank link for movement of the mattress support bar into a dropped position spaced below the intermediate section when the structure is extended, thereby out of interference with comfortable sleeping use of the bed frame.

  • Patent number: 5184802
Abstract: An improved wire grid for connecting an array of coil springs in a box spring assembly includes perpendicularly-connected lengthwise-extending and widthwise-extending wires with the widthwise-extending wires arranged in sufficient number of possible groupings, each of three successively adjacent wires, spaced along the length of the grid to enable the grid to accept plural differing arrays of coil springs by utilizing varying combinations of the wire groupings for use of the grid without modification in box spring assemblies having differing spring-supporting base frame constructions.

  • Patent number: 5138727
Abstract: A folding sofa bed frame having head, intermediate and foot bed sections pivotally connected end-to-end and constrained by a linkage arrangement to move in a predetermined pattern between a folded position and a horiziontally extended position. The linkage arrangement includes a bracing link with a stud which, in the extended position, engages the rearward side of an upright support link by which the structure is mounted within the sofa bed frame, to act as a stop member against undesired accidental upward tilting of the structure when weight or force is placed against the head section. A transverse mattress support bar is affixed to a pivoting control link also operated by the bracing link for movement of the mattress support bar into a retracted position closely adjacent the intermediate section when the structure is folded and a dropped position spaced below the intermediate section when the structure is extended, thereby out of interference with comfortable sleeping use of the bed frame.

  • Patent number: 4660883
Abstract: A safety platform arrangement for use in virtually any footrest or recliner type chair provides a safety platform pivotably attached to the footrest and supported horizontally by a transverse support rod mounted to the linkage mechanism of the chair or directly to the seat thereof to close the space which otherwise would exist between the footrest and the seat in any footrest or reclining positions of the chair. The platform prevents persons or objects from becoming entrapped and damaged or injured upon accidental or unintended closing movement of the footrest.

  • Patent number: 4523342
Abstract: A folding sofa bed frame structure including four bed sections pivotally connected end-to-end and an operatively associated linkage arrangement by which the bed sections are mounted and which controls their relative movement between a retracted, folded position and a horizontally extended position. The forwardmost end bed section in the extended position folds to be horizontally uppermost in the folded position and includes spaced fixed cross-members which move pivotably therewith and between which a sinuous spring fabric assembly extends to provide strong, firm seating support in the folded position of the bed frame structure.

  • Patent number: 4386871
Abstract: Bed frame members are provided for quick, snap-together, interlocking assembly for preventing relative rectilinear motion between members without loose or screwthread parts. One member has a first slot with an enlarged retaining portion and a mating member has a projection thereon for entrance into the slot. The projection carries a Belleville washer having its conical convex face disposed for engagement with the slot for compression as the projection moves thereinto and for retaining engagement with the periphery of the enlarged retaining portion of the slot when the projection has been fully inserted in the slot.
