    Abstract: A method for reinforcing fabric edges to prevent raveling or fraying of a release liner fabric during cutting and subsequent use. The method is carried out by coating the yarn crossovers with a flexible, thin film of a radiation polymerized resin and then curing the coating system at high production speeds. The fabric is cut in those areas where the cured coating is applied, thereby providing a band or border of cured resin of sufficient width to prevent raveling of the fabric edge. The method is particularly suitable for the fabrication of release liners used for the protection of rubber sheeting for manufacturing automobile tires.

    Abstract: An awning fabric for use with a backlit sign of the type having a light source disposed on one side of the awning fabric. The awning fabric includes a scrim and a translucent coating on at least one side of the scrim. The scrim is treated with an optical brightener. When the awning fabric is viewed by an observer from the side opposite the light source, the visibility of the scrim to the observer is minimized. The translucent coating may be plastisol. The optical brightener is preferably a fluorescent whitening agent comprising a stilbene derivative. Also disclosed is a method for producing an awning fabric. The method includes applying an optical brightener to a scrim and applying a translucent coating onto at least one side of the scrim. The method may further include applying an opaque coating onto the translucent coating. Thereafter, a solvent is selectively applied to the opaque coating thereby forming a selected pattern on the awning fabric.

    Abstract: A silicone rubber composition that is capable of adhering to the surface of various kinds of substrates, in particular woven fabrics or the like in the absence of an adhesion promoter or coupling agent. The composition of the present invention includes a dual catalyst system which enhances the cure rate of the silicone compound. Strong adhesion of the silicone rubber coating composition to the substrate is achieved at high coating speeds using a mixture of an organopolysiloxane, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane resin, a platinum catalyst, and a peroxide curing agent. The silicone rubber composition is particularly suitable as a coating for airbag fabrics.

    Abstract: Elastomer-coated fabric products having predetermined potential extension in the fabric's machine direction and processes for producing the same. The fabric product of the invention preferably includes an elastomer-coated warp-knit, weft-insert fabric whereby the warp knit yarns provide a first potential elongation (as by selection of the type and/or denier of yarns employed). The fabric is compressed in the machine direction (as by overfeeding the fabric to a tenter frame during production) so as to provide a second potential elongation, and is maintained in its compressed state by virtue of the elastomer coating thereon. The first and second elongation potentials thus collectively establish the total potential elongation for the fabric in the machine direction.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tubeless tire is produced in such a way that the tire cord fabric (also known as the tire carcass fabric or ply fabric) has the ends thereof secured during tire building so that separation of the cord fabric ends, and a resulting blemish, does not occur. The carcass fabric is wrapped around a rubber inner lining body with turned up portions of the carcass fabric at a pair of beads on opposite sides of the body, during tire construction. The free ends of the carcass fabric are butted together around the body, to provide a butt seam. The free ends are held together in substantial butting position by placing an open mesh warp knit splicer fabric highly extensible in both the machine and cross-machine directions over the butt seam and affixing the splicer fabric in place using adhesive or the like. Rubber tack may be applied over the splicer fabric. The open mesh fabric appears to have no machine direction or cross-machine direction yarns, but only bias yarns.
