Abstract: A charting system is provided for use in a healthcare facility having a network. The charting system includes a microphone to receive voice inputs from a caregiver. A vital sign monitor obtains a vital sign from a patient and displays it. The system includes a communication device having a voice-to-text module that includes a processor coupled to the microphone. The processor operates a voice-to-text algorithm that converts the vital sign into text in response to the caregiver dictating the vital sign into the microphone. The processor initiates transmission of the vital sign to an EMR computer via the network after conversion of the at least one vital sign to text.

Abstract: Systems and methods include a medical device that scans for wireless broadcasts based upon received input or satisfying a scanning criterion. The medical device, based upon the scan, identifies data wirelessly broadcast from a control device. The medical device outputs information to the interface identifying the control device. The medical device receives input from the interface selecting the control device. The medical device receives a command from the control device. The medical device physically interacts with a user based upon the command received from the control device. The medical device sends wireless confirmation of pairing to the control device. The medical device subsequently sends wireless confirmation of unpairing to the control device. The medical device performs a scan for wireless broadcasts in response to the unpairing, based upon received input or satisfying the scanning criterion.
Abstract: An incontinence detection pad has an RFID tag in which an authentication code, such as an electronic product code (EPC), is stored. A reader in wireless communication with the RFID tag of the incontinence detection pad verifies that the incontinence detection pad is an authorized detection pad. Thus, unauthorized incontinence detection pads that do not have the proper authentication code are not able to be used in an incontinence detection system.

Abstract: An apparatus for remote at-home care of a patient is disclosed. The apparatus monitors a patient with a deployable sensor system and communicates the data sensed by the sensor system to a patient care hub located within a patient's home. A patient interface and a caregiver controller are in wireless communication with each other and the patient care hub. The patient care hub generates an alert(s) in view of the sensed data and wirelessly communicates the alert(s) to the patient interface and/or the caregiver controller.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a bed frame having a head end and a foot end and control circuitry carried by the bed frame. The control circuitry receives information about conditions of the patient support apparatus. A light is coupled to the bed frame adjacent the foot end and is coupled to the control circuitry. The light is in a first state when the patient support apparatus is operating normally and the light is in a second state when the control circuitry detects an alert condition.

Abstract: A system identifies a first position of a tag in a clinical environment based on first times at which first receivers received a first wireless signal from the tag. The system estimates a second position of the tag in the clinical environment based on second times at which second receivers received a second wireless signal from the tag. The system determines that a boundary is located between the first position and the second position, defines a path range around the first position of the tag based on an expected movement of the tag during a time interval between the first and second wireless signals, determines that the boundary lacks a door within the path range, adjusts the second position of the tag based on the boundary map, and transmits a message indicating that the tag is located at the adjusted position at the second time.

Abstract: An occupant support includes a framework with a frame and an orientation adjustable deck section that is supported by the frame. A lockable gas spring includes a piston assembly coupled to one of the frame and the deck section and a cylinder coupled to the other of the frame and the deck section. The piston assembly includes a piston and a connecting rod. The piston divides the interior of the cylinder into isolated and non-isolated compartments. The non-isolated compartment has an inlet and an outlet. An outflow check valve operates to resist fluid flow out of the non-isolated compartment and to admit ambient fluid into the non-isolated compartment. An inflow check valve operates to resist fluid flow into the non-isolated compartment and to enable fluid flow out of the non-isolated compartment. A turbine receives fluid that flows out of the non-isolated compartment. An electrical generator is coupled to the turbine.
Abstract: A moisture management apparatus monitors an area for moisture events and wirelessly transmits moisture-related information to one or more notification devices. An embodiment of the moisture management apparatus includes a substrate and one or more sensors supported by the substrate. The sensor(s) emit wireless signals indicative of the moisture-related information. A sensor event communication system forwards the sensor signals to another device, such as a notification device. The sensor event communication system may monitor other types of patient events. Portions of the moisture management apparatus and/or the moisture event communication system may be embodied in a patient support apparatus, such as a bed.

Abstract: Systems and methods include a control device that matches a first identifier received over its first communication channel and associated with a medical device with a second identifier received over its second communication channel as well as a receiver device that receives the second identifier from the medical device via a third communication channel from the medical device and transmits the second identifier to the control device via the second communication channel. The control device, upon determining that the first identifier received over the first communication channel, matches the second identifier received over the second communication channel and automatically pairs with the medical device associated with the matching identifier over the second communication channel.
