    Abstract: In a method for determining upper and lower limit values for a target brightness when image contrast is extended, an upper and lower limit value search processing unit establishes two adjacent areas in accordance with brightness of a grayscale histogram, and, while scanning the positions of those areas, compares the frequency of those areas to a threshold, and if one frequency value is greater than or equal to the threshold value and the other frequency value is lower than the threshold, performs upper and lower limit value search processing wherein a brightness value at the boundary of the two areas is determined as an upper or lower limit value. Thresholds for upper and lower limit value search start position and frequency are established based on the shape of the grayscale histogram of an image to be processed. The shape of the grayscale histogram is identified according to preset classifications.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a system for visualizing the congestion degree of an entire facility using a monitoring camera. The system detects a crowd from a monitoring camera video and derives the magnitude (number of people) of the crowd from the edge amount thereof, and thereby estimates a congestion state in a range of camera video. The system also calculates a human flow (amount of movement of people) on the basis of a number of passing people counter and the magnitude and movement speed of the crowd, etc., and estimates the number of people in an area other than the range of camera video on the basis of a modeled crowd behavior pattern. The model is constructed by selecting a distribution function and a parameter thereof by a statistical model selection technique such as a Bayesian Information Criteria (BIC). The congestion state is plotted on a map, allowing the congestion state of an area of interest to be grasped at once.

    Abstract: In an image correction method and an image capture device, a one-frame addition average calculation unit calculates a one-frame addition average value. If the one-frame addition average value falls within an appropriate range, a determination circuit inputs image data for one frame to an adder and the adder adds the image data to a cumulative correction value to update the correction value. The updated correction value is stored in a frame memory. If the one-frame addition average value is outside the appropriate range, the image data for one frame is discarded. After updating the cumulative correction value until the number of updates reaches a prescribed number, an FPN correction value is calculated by dividing the cumulative correction value stored in the frame memory by the prescribed number, and an image is corrected by subtracting the FPN correction value from the image data inputted at the time of imaging.

A picture to be output uses the vertical effective pictures of the captured image frames having approximately the same vertical synchronization phase.

In addition, the system observes the periodicity of normal waves on the sea surface at a location without any object by performing the Fourier transform on the image.
