    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for cooling blast furnace gas for use in a blast furnace gas treating system having incorporated therein a coarse particle removing unit having a dust collecting box. Nozzles extend through the box as arranged circumferentially thereof at a plurality of locations for injecting a cooling fluid into the unit without wetting the inner wall thereof. Since the unit which has a large capacity is used also as a cooling container, a large quantity of cooling fluid can be injected to effectively cool the blast furnace gas even when the gas has a considerably high temperature. The system can be constructed at a low cost without necessitating any additional cooling container.

    Abstract: In continuous casting equipment having a path of transport of castings defined by roll segments and having a curved section and a horizontal section, an apparatus for hoisting the roll segment comprises a pair of pivotal guide rods pivotably supported by a trolley disposed above the horizontal section, a pair of fixed guide rods arranged on the opposite sides of each of the roll segments defining the curved section, and a pair of fixed circular arc rails extending along the paths of movement of the free ends of the pivotal guide rods. A truck, movable on the rails and engageable with the pivotal guide rods, is reciprocatable along the rails to align the pivotal guide rods with a desired pair of fixed guide rods for hoisting the corresponding roll segment along the fixed guide rods to the pivotal guide rods in alignment therewith.

    Abstract: A system for burning a liquefied gas comprises a burner gun for spraying the liquefied gas into a combustion space, a pump for feeding the gas under pressure, pipe means connecting the burner gun with the pump, and a flow regulating valve provided in the pipe means, wherein the portion of the pipe means downstream from the valve has its inner diameter so determined in relation with the flow rate of the gas that the state of the gas flow through said portion falls within fog flow zone or bubble flow zone on Baker's two-phase flow diagram.In the system of the invention, unstable combustion of the liquefied gas due to vapor lock in the pipe means can be prevented even when the gas supply pressure is below the vapor pressure of the gas. Besides, the calorific value obtained with the system is variable over a wider range than with a conventional system. Thus the system has a remarkable industrial value.

    Abstract: A system for recovering as power the pressure and sensible heat of the gas discharged from the top of a blast furnace by guiding the gas to a dry-type dust collector for the removal of dust while maintaining the gas at the furnace top pressure and introducing the gas into a turbine for expansion. To protect the dry-type dust collector when the gas is run off from the furnace at an abnormally high temperature, a gas channel extending from the furnace to the dust collector is provided with at least one injector, which injects a cooling fluid into the gas in response to a signal from a temperature detecting sensor disposed close to the gas outlet of the dust collector. The sensor which is positioned near the dust collector outlet detects the temperature without the time delay attributable to the deposition of dust. With use of the dry-type dust collector, the gas can be fed to the turbine almost without cooling for the recovery of an increased amount of power.

    Abstract: A system for generating power with the top pressure of a plurality of blast furnaces by leading a gas from the top of the furnaces into turbines, corresponding in number to the furnaces, to convert the pressure of the gas into rotational energy and generate power by a generator coupled to the turbines. The turbines connected to the furnaces by main gas channels individually are aligned with their rotor shafts connected together into a single shaft which is connected to the generator. Preferably each pair of the adjacent turbines are arranged with their intake ends positioned in the center of the arrangement so that the gas flows toward the exhaust ends at both sides, or with their intake ends positioned at both sides to cause the gas to flow toward the exhaust ends in the center. The single shaft connecting the pair of turbines together has no intermediate bearing between these turbines.

    Abstract: A device for emergently relieving pressure comprises a flexible plate bent downward and having its periphery attached to the inner surface of a hatch coaming, wherein the periphery of the plate is welded to the inner surface of the coaming at appropriate intervals, and the gap between the remaining part of the periphery of the plate and the coaming inner surface is sealed by a sealant.When a specified pressure exerts on the flexible plate, the plate starts bending back upward. With the upward bending of the plate, the welds between the plate and the coaming are deformed and broken, allowing the plate to be blown off from the coaming. Thus the device, if installed on a fuel tank, serves to relieve the pressure in the tank for the maintenance of safety.

    Abstract: A device comprises a bag for covering a cask for transporting a used nuclear fuel to prevent the outer surface of the cask from contamination with the contaminated water of a fuel storage pool when the cask is immersed in the pool. An annular tube inflatable with a pressure gas injected thereinto is provided along the open end of the bag to hold the opening edge in pressing contact with the outer surface of the cask and thereby seal off the interior of the bag. Preferably the bag is provided with means for adjusting the pressure of the gas in accordance with the pressure of water at the depth at which the cask is positioned. The device is also useful for casks for transporting other radioactive fissionable materials.

    Abstract: A ground flare comprising a furnace body in the form of a tubular wall having a circular or polygonal cross section and a bottom open over the substantially entire bottom area and a multiplicity of burners arranged at the opening of the bottom of the furnace body. Each of the burners comprises a gas nozzle and a gas mixing tube having an open lower end with the upper end of the gas nozzle positioned therein and a substantially cylindrical inner surface. Most suitably for the prevention of black smoke and vibration, the gas mixing tube has an inside diameter 2 to 5 times the inside diameter of the gas nozzle and a length 5 to 10 times the inside diameter of the tube. Flame transfer plates provided between the upper ends of the gas mixing tubes serve to greatly reduce the number of pilot burners which otherwise would be needed.

    Abstract: A conduit for feeding a combustible waste gas to a ground flare is divided into a plurality of branch pipes each connected to burners of the ground flare. A stop valve is mounted on each of the branch pipes except the first pipe and provided with a limit switch for detecting the closing of the valve. A pressure detector is mounted on each of the branch pipes except the last pipe. The valve on each branch pipe opens in response to an opening signal from the pressure detector on the preceding branch pipe and closes in response to both a closing signal from that pressure detector and a signal from the limit switch on the valve on the following branch pipe, whereby the number of branch pipes used for feeding the waste gas is controlled in accordance with variations in the feed of waste gas.
