Abstract: With an object of executing excellent finishing processing when information is recorded to a rewritable type record medium or a write once type record medium, the finishing processing is switched by whether a kind of a medium for recording information is the rewritable type record medium or the write once type record medium and a method of executing the finishing processing is switched based on a state of supplying power.
Abstract: Pressing means is provided to press a movable base to a surface of a reference base to make the movable base in contact with the surface of the reference base to thereby lock-down the movable base on the surface of the reference base. The movable base is moved while slightly floating with respect to the reference base. A movable floating mechanism is provided to float the movable base from the reference base against pressing force of the pressing means exerted on the movable base to thereby relieve the locking. A floating amount of the movable base from the reference base may be small enough to reduce or substantially remove sliding friction between the movable base and the reference base. For example, the floating amount may be as small as ten to several hundreds microns.
Abstract: A system is described in which a plurality of host computers are coupled to a storage system for storing and retrieving data in the storage system. The storage system includes individually addressable units of storage such as volumes or logical unit numbers. A security management system controls access to each of the individually addressable units of storage based upon the identification of the host permitted to access that unit of storage.
Abstract: Disclosed is a vacuum switchgear comprising an electro-conductive outer vacuum container, a plurality of inner container disposed in the outer vacuum container. The inner containers and the outer container are electrically isolated from each other. The outer container is made of stainless steel plate, for example. One of the inner vacuum containers accommodates a ground switch for keeping the circuit open while the switchgear is opened, having a movable electrode connected to an operating mechanism, and a fixed electrode connected to fixed electrode rod. Another inner vacuum container accommodates a function switch capable of having at least one of functions of a circuit breaker, a disconnector and a load switch. A plurality of electrode shields each surrounds the electrodes of the ground switch and of the function switch. The ground switch and the function switch are disposed in separate vacuum inner containers, respectively.
Abstract: A demodulating semiconductor integrated circuit device used in a wireless communication system of an FM-modulation scheme, wherein a circuit for canceling a frequency offset is made of a digital circuit, so as to make a high-accuracy decision as to received data and prevent error frequency offset cancel due to a pseudo pattern contained in the received data. Consequently, a high-accuracy received data decision is carried out.
Abstract: There is provided a printed board machining apparatus that is capable of improving machining efficiency without hampering machining accuracy. The printed board machining apparatus includes a pressure foot which is provided with a port whose one end is opened at a lower surface of the pressure foot facing a stiffening plate, and whose other end is connected to a compressed gas source to blow out gas from the port at a pressure which does not interfere with the pressure foot pressurizing the stiffening plate and printed boards in machining the printed boards. It is noted that the gas is blown out during a period of time at least when the pressure foot and the stiffening plate are moving relatively in the horizontal direction.
Abstract: Flow identifier data of layered audiovisual data to be processed on the occurrence of congestion, as well as control code data for initiating or terminating the discard of packet data, is retained. When congestion occurs, selective transmission units perform discard initiation or termination on data having the flow identifier data indicating the layered audiovisual data retained, based on the control code data for performing the discard-initiating or -terminating operation of the packet data.
Abstract: A plurality of NAS heads 1 to 4 can access a shared LU 18 which stores a shared resource 21 and a count value for the NAS head 1. The NAS head 1 comprises a use resource registration/delete section 35 which accesses the shared resource 21 if the shared resource is in unused status, and does not access the shared resource 21 if the shared resource 21 is used by another NAS head 2 to 4, and a reset section 39 for resetting the count value to zero. The NAS head 2 cancels the use status and release the shared resource 21 to the unused status if the count value exceeds a predetermined threshold and the shared resource 21 remains in use status being used by the NAS head 1. Exclusive control for using a shared resource is performed.
Abstract: A key managing system including information transmitting apparatus which transmits a date and time when secrecy protection is ended to a key controlling apparatus. The key controlling apparatus searches a key control table for an encryption key associated with a decryption key and the date and time. The key controlling apparatus transmits an encryption key from the search to the information transmitting apparatus. The key controlling apparatus discloses a decryption key for the present date and time to an information receiving apparatus in response to a request for a decryption key. The information transmitting apparatus, upon receipt of the encryption key, encrypts information using the encryption key and transmits the encrypted information to the information receiving apparatus. The information receiving apparatus, for the present date and time matching with the date and time, acquires a disclosed decryption key and decrypts the encrypted information by using the decryption key.
Abstract: Prior to authentication, a business system generates a password list and sends the password list to a commercial service system. A request for use of the commercial service system is sent from a terminal that a user is using to the business system. In response to this, the business system that received the request for use checks the request for use of a commercial service use authority of the user. A password is selected from the password list and returned to the terminal. The terminal sends the returned password to the commercial service system. The commercial service system compares the password with a password in accounting information including the password list. If they match, login is permitted and the used password is nullified.
Abstract: In a radio wave radar system using a two-frequency CW modulation method, it is possible to detect a distance between a host vehicle and a forward vehicle and to realize a stable ACC following travel, even in a condition in which the relative speed is 0. By combining the two-frequency CW modulation method with the frequency pulse CW modulation method, that is, by using combination with the two-frequency CW method when the relative speed occurs and the frequency pulse CW method when the relative speed is close to 0, even if the relative speed is 0, the IF signal obtained from the reflected wave from the forward vehicle can be generated to detect the existence of the ACC target vehicle, so that it is possible to realize a stable ACC following travel.
Abstract: In a vehicular control device, it is necessary to measure or calculate six physical quantities-forward-reverse speed, left-right speed, vertical speed, pitch angle, roll angle, and angle of sideslip-representing vehicular movement and to control the braking force of each wheel and/or the damping coefficient of each suspension shock absorber in order to further shorten braking distance particularly at the time of braking and to prevent spin at that time. In this case, it is necessary to furnish sensors to measure speed and angle directly. In the present invention, four radar sensors are used in order to directly measure the forward-reverse speed and the left-right speed. Also, the vertical speed, the pitch angle, the roll angle, and the angle of sideslip are indirectly measured from the output of the radar sensors.
Abstract: Configuration information settings for a storage device are made highly reliable and facilitated. The storage device includes a service processor for setting storage device configuration information, and a terminal device connected to the service processor via a private line to send a command group, received from an operator and related to the storage device configuration information, to the service processor. The service processor also includes a device for determining approval or denial of execution of the command group prior to execution of the command group received from the terminal device.

Abstract: A magnetic head including a lead overlaid read head component in which the electrical current passing through the overlaid passive regions of the sensor layers is reduced. The parts of the electrical leads that overlay the sensor layers are comprised of gold. The exceptional electrical conductivity of gold allows most sensor electrical current to flow through the overlaid leads and significantly reduces the amount of sensor electrical current that passes through the overlaid sensor layers. The operational characteristics of the read head are improved because the overlaid passive regions of the sensor layers do not contribute to the sensor signal. Noise and side reading effects are thereby reduced. In alternative embodiments of the present invention of gold is also used to overlay portions of the electrical leads that are away from the overlaid portions. This further reduces the sensor electrical current that passes through the overlaid sensor layers.

Abstract: A RAID subsystem with a plurality of hard disk drives has each disk controller autonomously executing data scrubbing on its disks instead of requiring the RAID controller to execute data scrubbing. The data scrubbing may be interrupted upon an I/O request from the RAID controller, or it may continue if a guaranteed scrub rate is not being achieved. Data is stored in large bands of concentric data tracks, and a band may be preferentially selected for scrubbing based on frequency of reading the band, or recency of writing to the band.

Abstract: The present invention makes it possible to suitably create additional information on the basis of backup target data and then store the additional information in a data storage medium. In one embodiment, a system comprises a backup destination storage device (7A) that constitutes a backup destination of backup target data to be a target for backup; a backup source device (1), comprising a backup execution module (11) that backs up the backup target data by transferring the backup target data to the backup destination storage device (7A); an additional information storage medium (7P), which is capable of storing additional information created on the basis of the backup target data; and an additional information creation module (21), which creates additional information on the basis of the backup target data and stores the additional information in the additional information storage medium (7P) after a backup of the backup target data has been completed.
Abstract: A device including a self-information memory which stores function data for other devices to operate the device and device name data. Upon receiving a request from another device for the device name or function data, the device sends the data stored in the self-information memory. When function data is thereafter received, the device executes a function indicated by the data. When plural devices are connected to each other via a network, device acting as a mater device, includes a connected device memory which stores device name data of all connected device and a communication pair memory which stores function data of the communication partner.
Abstract: A method and program product supporting adjusting a temperature of a hard disk drive (HDD) during testing. An HDD test program is performed within a pre-determined optimal test temperature range. The HDD is kept within this pre-determined test temperature range by switching HDD operation modes back and forth between a higher heat generating Rapid Seek Mode and a lower heat generating IDLE mode. The HDD is thus kept within the optimal test temperature range without the use of external heating and/or cooling devices.

Abstract: In a system for monitoring each of compressors distant from each other through at least one of internet communication, optical communication line, electric communication line and wireless communication, a server computer obtains actual condition data of the each of the compressors through the at least one of internet communication, optical communication line, electric communication line and wireless communication, and stores therein the obtained actual condition data and predetermined database to be compared with the obtained actual condition data to find a remarkable technical point in the compressor, and a service center computer outputs the remarkable technical point to at least one of a service person and the compressor so that the at least one of the service person, the compressor and the user of the compressor can handle appropriately the remarkable technical point in the compressor.
