Abstract: Oriented polyester films primer coated with a hydrolyzed amino silane are disclosed. These silanes in the unhydrolyzed state have the formula:XSi(R.sup.2).sub.a (R.sup.3).sub.bwherein X is a radical selected from the group consisting of H.sub.2 NR.sup.1 HNR.sup.1 -- and H.sub.2 NR.sup.1 HNR.sup.1 HNR.sup.1 --; the R.sup.1 's are the same or different groups selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 and C.sub.8 alkyl or phenyl; R.sup.2 is a hydrolyzable group selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkoxy, an acetoxy group or a halide; R.sup.3 is a nonreactive, nonhydrolyzable group selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl or phenyl; (a) is an integer ranging from 1 to 3; (b) is an integer ranging from 0 to 2, with the sum of (a) and (b) being 3.The hydrolyzed aminosilane is applied to the film as an aqueous solution at any suitable stage during manufacture of the film, i.e., before or during the stretching operation, or it may also be applied to the finished film.
