  • Publication number: 20080271644
Abstract: In a method for the production of high-strength, acid-resistant concrete by use of water, hydraulic binder and aggregates, a hydraulic binder containing aluminosilicates, calciumsulfate and an activator containing salts of alkalimetals is applied wherein the aluminosilicates are chosen from the group consisting of furnace slag, clay, marl and industry-by-products like flue-ash with the requirement that the Al2O3-content of the binder is greater than 5% (w/w) and that furnace slag is present in an amount less than 35% (w/w) of the binder and that cement kiln dust in amounts from 1 to 20% (w/w) of the binder is applied as activator whereby the hydraulic activator is applied in amounts >400 kg per m3 concrete safeguarding a water/binder ratio from 0.25 to 0.40.

  • Publication number: 20070227307
Abstract: A method for reducing the chromium content from a metallurgical slag, in which the slag is charged onto an iron bath in the liquid state and the reduction of Cr is effected by the iron bath having a C content of 2 to 4% by weight, wherein a) the Cr-containing slag having a Cr content of 2 to 20% by weight is charged onto an iron bath having a C content of below 1% by weight, whereupon b) the carbon content of the iron bath is raised to about 2 to 4% by weight by the addition of carbon carriers at the simultaneous supply of energy, c) the liquid slag having a Cr content of about 0.1% by weight is tapped after the reduction of Cr, d) a cooling agent, preferably scrap, is added to the iron melt and the C content of the melt is lowered to below 1% by weight, and e) a portion of the Cr-containing melt is tapped in the liquid state, while the remaining portion is left in the converter in the liquid state for the treatment of the subsequent melt.

  • Publication number: 20070184396
Abstract: A method and system for mixing process gas flow by adding or injecting suitably-directed high momentum turbulent gas into dust-laden stratified process gas flow at approximately 850 to 1400° C. to entrain the process gas flow such that stratification is reduced and mixing of both gases and suspended solids is improved. The jet entrainment of the process gas flow by appropriate injection of gas serves to enhance the contact of reacting materials, such as residual fuel and available oxygen, and further serves to improve the completion of reactions, such as combustion of the fuel and the transfer of heat to the raw material/kiln feed.

  • Patent number: 7240520
Abstract: In a process for pulverizing and granulating melts, especially oxidic slag, glass, or thermoplastic melts, in which the melts are heated with burner (6) in an antechamber (5) and ejected as a shroud surrounding a propellant stream into a granulating chamber (11), hot combustion gases from the antechamber (5) are mixed with the propellant stream.

  • Patent number: 6855189
Abstract: In a method for removing chromium oxide and nickel oxide, and combinations thereof, from liquid slags or slag mixtures, in which the liquid slag is A charged onto a metal bath, in particular an iron bath, and reduced by feeding carbon or carbon carriers, the carbon feed into the metal bath is effected until a decrease of the Cr and/or Ni oxide contents of the slag to a value of between 0.8 wt.-% and 0.2 wt.-%. As the pregiven Cr and/or Ni oxide content range of the slag is reached, reductants having higher reduction potentials such as, e.g., Al, Ca, Si, Fe—Si or Ca—Si are added in order to lower the Cr and/or Ni oxide contents to below 0.15 wt.-%, preferably below 0.08 wt.-%.

  • Patent number: 6843828
Abstract: In a method for treating slags or slag mixtures having iron oxide contents of >5 wt.-%, in particular steelworks slags, in which the steel slags optionally mixed with other slags are charged onto a metal bath, a steel bath having a carbon content of <1.5 wt.-%, preferably <0.5 wt.-%, is used as the metal bath and the steel bath, after the charging of the steel slags, is carburized to above 2.0 wt.-% C, preferably >2.5 wt.-% C, by introducing carbon or carbon carriers.

  • Patent number: 6676747
Abstract: In a method for producing puzzolanic or hydraulic grinding additives for the cement industry from basic oxidic slags, in particular steel slags, using a metal bath for the reduction of metal oxides contained in the slags, the basicities of the liquid slags are adjusted to values lying 0.1 to 0.5 below the basicity value (CaO/SiO2) of the target slag prior to the reduction by adding acidic corrective substances such as, e.g., quartz sand and/or blast furnace slag and/or SiO2-containing corrective substances.
