  • Patent number: 5618092
Abstract: A furniture drawer is constructed by providing a generally flat, elongate metal body member and manually bending the member to form a rear wall and a pair of side walls. Bending of the body member to form corners at the juncture of the side walls and rear wall is facilitated by transverse coined indentations in the body member which create lines of weakness in the body for accurately locating the corners. The body member is also formed with channels for receiving drawer slides and for receiving a bottom panel. Flanges formed at forward ends of the body member provide for attachment of a suitable drawer front. The drawer assembly as thus designed is capable of being economically packaged flat and shipped for easy assembly by the consumer.

  • Patent number: 5613487
Abstract: A gas-fired fireplace comprises an enclosure having a forwardly facing glass panel. The panel is pivotably secured to the enclosure along a lower edge of the panel. The upper edge of the panel is normally spring biased against the enclosure by a latch mechanism. By this arrangement an explosion within the fireplace combustion chamber will cause the panel to pivotably open and relieve the pressure within the chamber. The panel can also be readily removed without tools if it is necessary to gain access to the inside of the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 5595127
Abstract: A shelving unit comprises a pair of side panels each having a front edge and a rear edge with the edges formed into generally C-shaped channels defining vertical upright support members. A plurality of vertically spaced slots are provided in each support member defining a plurality of vertically spaced rails. A pair of notches are formed in each rail. A shelf is provided with outwardly extending hooks on opposed edges thereof for cooperation with the notches of the support member rails. The shelves are thereby supported by the support members and may be adjusted to any desired pre-selected height.

  • Patent number: 5582460
Abstract: A chair is provided having a blow molded back rest and a mechanism which permits the back rest to pivot rearwardly and to be vertically adjusted. The mechanism has a carrier block slidably engaging vertical slots in a support member for vertical adjustment movement. The back rest is operatively attached to the carrier block so that the back rest can move in the vertical direction in unison with the carrier block or pivot rearwardly. The carrier block has a curved integral spring which engages the rear of the back rest to bias the back rest forward and to regulate the rearward pivoting motion as the user reclines.

  • Patent number: 5577811
Abstract: A chair comprises an integrally formed shell having a horizontal portion and a vertical portion. A seat pan is supported on resilient arms formed integrally with the shell. A pair of independently flexible arms of the vertical shell portion are formed integrally with shoulder support members. The resilience of the shoulder support arms and seat pan support arms provides a chair which is highly passive to the body movements of the user.

  • Patent number: 5569505
Abstract: A panel or slab construction includes a fiber core glued between two facing sheets of thin metal and having edges of the core spaced inwardly of the slab from the associated edges of the metal facing sheets thereby defining a recess. A decorative molding member having a predetermined shaped edge extends into the recess and is fixed to the edges of the metal sheets thereby concealing the adjacent edges of the core. At least one side of the molding is stepped approximately the thickness of the metal sheet such that the sheet overlies the molding with its exposed surface forming a flush transition with the surface of the shaped molding edge. A seamless veneer may thereby be formed and fixed to the steel facing sheet and associated molding as a single piece to finish the panel in a manner simulating the appearance of a solid slab.

  • Patent number: 5544957
Abstract: A locking assembly for a plurality of vertically aligned drawers in a housing that includes a locking member associated with at least each of the drawers and wherein the locking member is arranged for reciprocal vertical movement relative to the housing. A slide mechanism is associated with each of the drawers with each of the slide mechanisms being aligned perpendicular to the locking mechanism and being arranged for reciprocal horizontal extension to move the drawers between closed and opened positions with respect to the housing. Each of the slide mechanisms for at least each of the drawers other than the uppermost drawer includes a ramp section that is structured and dimensioned to engage the locking member when at least any one of the drawers other than the uppermost drawer is opened such that the remaining drawers are locked in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5542159
Abstract: A coupling member for coupling two tubular members together includes an attachment portion and a coupling portion formed integrally therewith. The attachment portion includes a member which partially wraps around the tubular member and forms a glide. The coupling portion includes a male coupling element juxtaposed next to a female coupling element. The male coupling element is receivable within a female element of a second identical coupling member and the female coupling element receives a male coupling element of the second coupling member. By this configuration, identical coupling members may be snapped to respective tubular base frames of two chairs to gang the chairs together when the coupling members are mated.

  • Patent number: 5542743
Abstract: A low cost task chair comprises a blow molded seat support member having a central planar portion for attachment of a control bracket. A recess in the planar portion beneath the control bracket receives a cross brace. A pair of arm support frames are secured to the ends of the cross brace and to the control bracket. The arms are, therefore, easily assembled to the chair with the cross brace concealed from view. A pedestal is secured to the control bracket and contains a gas cylinder for raising and lowering the seat assembly. Another recess is formed in the seat support member for receiving a flush mounted cylinder actuating lever. A seat back adjustment mechanism for adjusting the outward position of the back relative to the seat comprises a pair of parallel spaced tubular members telescopingly received by the control bracket.

  • Patent number: 5542407
Abstract: A fireplace assembly of the type used as a room air heater comprises a second pane of glass in front of and spaced from the glass pane forming the front of the combustion chamber. The two panes form an air passageway for delivering intake air from an upper vent to the bottom of the combustion chamber. The intake air cools the panes of glass such that a relatively inexpensive glass material can be used and such that the front of the fireplace assembly is relatively cool to the touch.

  • Patent number: 5529373
Abstract: Fabric covered furniture comprises a form member having a straight edge portion contouring into a relatively curved edge portion with fabric covering the front surface and edges thereof. A drawstring is secured along the border of the fabric. A flange element is positioned on the rear surface of the form member adjacent the straight edge portion, the flange having a curvilinear surface projecting generally inwardly of the rear surface. The drawstring is secured over the curvilinear surface of the flange thereby pulling the fabric tightly in the area of the relatively straight edge portion of the form.

  • Patent number: 5528996
Abstract: A leg support assembly for a table includes a leg support member, which receives and retains a table leg, and a connector which is attachable to the underside of a table top. The support member has a plurality of plugs which are receivable in sockets provided in the connector plate. When the connector plates are fastened to the corners of two abutting table tops, the leg support member can be mated with two connector plates thereby spanning the joint between the tables and providing support for a single leg. Thereby, the duplication of legs at the table joint is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5520452
Abstract: A file cabinet drawer slide assembly comprises a slide arm which is fitted with rotatable rollers, the rollers being dimensioned and configured to support a hem of a cabinet drawer. The slide arm is cooperable with a generally C-shaped track fixed to an inside side wall of the cabinet and configured to receive and support the slide arm in rolling telescoping relationship. A pivotable cam member is secured to the forward end of the slide arm in proximity to one of the rollers defining a slot through which the hem of the drawer travels. The bottom wall of the drawer is provided with a downward projection which engages a cross brace connected to the slide arm and normally prevents removal of the drawer. When the cam member is pivoted away from the hem, the drawer may be lifted sufficiently such that the projection disengages from the cross brace and the drawer can be removed from the cabinet.
