  • Patent number: 5448128
Abstract: A vibration type driving device in which a piezoelectric element is interposed between a pair of blocks connected to each other by a rod, a part of the surface of the piezoelectric element being covered with an electrode. Application of high frequency voltage to the electrode causes resonance of vertical vibrations and bending vibrations, which is effective to generate elliptical movement of the end surface of the block. The electrode is divided into three or more sections, preferably into four sections. A change-over switch is provided for selecting the electrode sections to be energized in accordance with the direction of the driving force. This permits linear movement of an article in a desired direction.
