Patents Assigned to Honda of America, Mfg.
  • Patent number: 5996207
Abstract: A method for installing a compressed natural gas tank assembly in an automobile. The method includes connecting the tank assembly to an arm, rotating the tank assembly about an axis a predetermined angular amount, inserting the tank assembly into the automobile, and rotating the tank assembly about the axis in a second, opposite direction the predetermined amount. The tank assembly is disposed over a desired location in the automobile and placed in engagement with the desired location.

  • Patent number: 5988206
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing leaks in a compressed natural gas fuel system on an assembly line. The apparatus includes a filling receptacle, a filling conduit, a fuel tank assembly, a supply conduit, a pressure regulating assembly, and a joint box. The filling conduit extends between the filling receptacle and the fuel tank assembly. The supply conduit extends between the fuel tank assembly and the pressure regulating assembly. The joint box includes a valve which regulates fluid communication between the filling conduit and the supply conduit. In the method according to the present invention, the tank assembly is fluidly isolated from the remainder of the fuel system and the filling conduit and supply conduit are fluidly connected, by opening the joint box valve, to permit pressurization and leak detection of a first portion of the fuel system.

  • Patent number: 5908272
Abstract: A guard apparatus for a rotational tool prevents direct contact of the cutting regions by an operator of the tool. The rotational cutting tool to which this invention is particularly applicable is the type having at least a shank portion and a toothed region, with the shank portion attachable to a holding attachment device to hold the tool, particularly during operation. The guard apparatus comprises a compressible guard housing for defining a guard circumferential area following a circular path parallel to but greater than a cutting circumferential area defined by the toothed region of the rotational cutting tool; and a first securement device having a first periphery at a first end for abutting the holding attachment device and a flared and tapered periphery at a second end for associating with the compressible guard housing.

  • Patent number: 5901650
Abstract: A method of operating an automotive production line including the steps of advancing a plurality of self-propelled carriages along a conveyor of the production line. The carriages are continuously advanced at a fixed operational speed and a fixed operational pitch to obtain a fixed processing time at a plurality of work stations along the production line. Any one of the carriages are stopped when a reduced pitch is obtained due to a stoppage of the immediately preceding carriage. The reduced pitch is less than the operational pitch and is preferably the minimum pitch available between the carriages. Stopped carriages are restarted when the reduced pitch returns to the operational pitch due to the restarting of the immediately preceding carriage. Production losses are reduced by continuing operations upstream of a stoppage to form a dynamic online buffer upstream of the stoppage.

  • Patent number: 5346531
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for receiving molten slag and molten metal or alloy resulting from the smelting of ore from a cupola and for separating the slag from the molten metal or alloy. The slag separator of the present invention includes a refracting lining to protect the separator from the mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of the molten mixture. During the process of separation, the refractory however, suffers from erosion due to the mechanical, chemical and thermal properties of the mixture. A water cooling system is provided including water cooling jackets, provided on the outside of the refractory and surrounding the separation chambers, and water control valves to reduce refractory erosion and greatly increase refractory life. Further, vent holes may be provided in the refractory for venting any water which might leak from the water cooling system. In addition, the separator is provided with two chambers which allow the slag to rise to the top of the metal or alloy.
