  • Patent number: 8251313
Abstract: The ice prevention system of the present invention utilizes, in combination, a de-ice subsystem and anti-ice subsystem in a new configuration on an aircraft with engines located behind its wings. Depending on the vertical location of the engines with respect to the wings, the anti-ice subsystem is configured on an upper or lower portion of a leading edge of the wings. If the engine is located above the wing, the anti-ice system is configured only on a section of the wing aligned with the engine and only on the upper portion of the leading edge. If the engine is located below the wing, the placement of anti-ice system is reversed. The de-ice subsystem is configured on the opposite portion of the leading edge adjacent to the anti-ice subsystem and on the remainder of the leading edge of the wing.

  • Patent number: 8231079
Abstract: A speed brake apparatus reduces the airspeed of an aircraft by increasing aerodynamic drag. First and second brake panels are located on opposite sides of a portion of the aircraft, such as the fuselage, and are adapted to swing outward about a downstream hinge axis into deployed positions extending into the air stream. The panels are controlled by an operating device that includes a linear actuator. The actuator moves an operating head connected to a pair of toggle assemblies to convert linear movement of the operating head to the deployment and retraction movement of the brake panels.

  • Publication number: 20120133200
Abstract: A hydraulic system for an aircraft includes a brake operation device, a pressure supply, a reservoir, a shut-off valve, and a wheel brake. The shut-off valve is in fluid communication with and is disposed between the pressure supply and the brake valve. The shut-off valve can include a poppet, a first valve seat and a second valve seat. Movement of the poppet is controlled by operation of the brake operation device. The poppet is movable between a first position where the poppet acts against the first valve seat and a second position where the poppet acts against the second valve seat. In the first position, fluid flow is blocked between the pressure supply and the brake valve through the shut-off valve. In the second position, fluid flow is allowed between the pressure supply and the brake valve through the shut-off valve. The wheel brake is in fluid communication with and downstream from the shut-off valve.

  • Publication number: 20120132742
Abstract: A torque link member for aircraft landing gear includes a first end for connecting to a lower portion or an upper portion of the aircraft landing gear and a second end for connecting to another torque link member. A locking pin is disposed on one of the upper portion, the lower portion, the first end or the second end. The locking pin is axially movable between an engaged position wherein the pin protrudes for interengagement with a cooperating aperture on the first end, the second end, the upper portion, the lower portion, or the second end of the other torque link member, and a disengaged position. The locking pin is biased toward the engaged position and movable against the biasing to the disengaged position.

  • Publication number: 20120091283
Abstract: An aircraft control surface operating device is provided for operating a control surface on an aircraft body portion to move between a retracted position and an extended position. The aircraft control surface operating device includes a control surface mounting assembly which movably secures the control surface to the aircraft body portion, a drive arm rotatable about a drive axis relative to the aircraft body portion, an actuator for rotating the drive, and a drive link connecting the drive arm to the control surface mounting assembly. The drive link has a control end connected to the control surface mounting assembly and a driven end connected to the drive arm via a drive bearing joint. The drive link connects the drive arm and the control surface mounting assembly such that rotation of the drive arm is causes extending or retracting movement of the control surface.

  • Patent number: 8157215
Abstract: A door opening and closing mechanism for opening and closing the door from the inside of a fuselage. A door pivotally supported at an opening portion of the fuselage includes first and second position restricting links each having one end pivotally supported on the fuselage with a door driving link having one end pivotally supported on the door. The other end of the second position restricting link is pivotally supported on a middle portion of the door driving link. The door opening/closing operation lever is provided at one end with a grip with the other end pivotally supported on the other end of the door driving link. The middle portion of the door opening/closing operation lever is pivotally supported on the other end of the first position restricting link. By pulling the grip toward the inside of the fuselage and thereafter pushing downward, the door can be closed.

  • Publication number: 20100284903
Abstract: The electronic structure of nanowires, nanotubes and thin films deposited on a substrate is varied by doping with electrons or holes. The electronic structure can then be tuned by varying the support material or by applying a gate voltage. The electronic structure can be controlled to absorb a gas, store a gas, or release a gas, such as hydrogen, oxygen, ammonia, carbon dioxide, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20100283090
Abstract: The present invention discloses methods and processes for producing magnetic nanotransistors containing carbon nanotubes. The nanotube is attached to at least one magnetic particle, the nanotube is then placed in between the two fixed magnetic moments, and subjected to an external magnetic field. The current passing through the nanotube can be controlled using the external magnetic field.

  • Publication number: 20100175985
Abstract: Methods and processes for preparing interconnected carbon single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) are disclosed. The SWNTs soot, synthesized by any one of the art methods, is heated to less than about 1250° C. in flowing dry air using the electrical field (E) component of microwave energy. The tubes of the SWNTs thus treated become welded and interconnected.
