Abstract: Embodiments of a methods for producing gas turbine engine rotors and other powdered metal articles having shaped internal cavities are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes consolidating a powdered metal body utilizing a hot isostatic pressing process to produce a rotor preform in which elongated sacrificial tubes are embedded. Acid or another solvent is directed into solvent inlet channels provided in the elongated sacrificial tubes to chemically dissolving the elongated sacrificial tubes and create shaped cavities within the rotor preform. The rotor preform is subject to further processing, such as machining, prior to or after chemical dissolution of the elongated sacrificial tubes to produce the completed gas turbine engine rotor.

Abstract: A method and system for reinforcement learning can involve applying a finite-difference approach to a controller, and tuning the controller in response to applying the finite-difference approach by taking a state as an entirety of a closed-loop step response. The disclosed finite-different approach is based on a random search to tuning the controller, which operates on the entire closed-loop step-response of the system and iteratively improves the gains towards a desired closed-loop response. This allows for prescribing stability requirement into the reward function without any modeling procedures.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for analyzing flight records to assign procedures to the flight records. One method involves identifying a set of procedures for potential association with a flight record based at least in part on a runway associated with the flight record, identifying a probable procedure from among the set of procedures based on a relationship between a trajectory associated with the probable procedure and flight data associated with the flight record, and updating the flight record to maintain an association with the probable procedure. The flown trajectory represented by the flight data is mapped to the procedure trajectories to identify the probable procedure executed during the flight associated with the flight record based on the relative adherence of the flown trajectory to the procedural legs that constitute the procedure trajectory.

Abstract: A turbomachine includes a shroud and a rotor, which includes first and second blades. A first blade tip and a second blade tip respectively include a base and a first layer. The second blade tip also includes an abrasive second layer layered over the respective first layer. The first layer has a lower material hardness than the shroud. The second layer has a lower thermal stability than the shroud and the first layer. The rotor performs a grind operation and, subsequently, a post-grind operation. The second layer, in the grind operation, contacts and removes material from the shroud, and wears away, thereby revealing the first layer of the second blade tip for the post-grind operation. The first layer of the first blade tip is spaced apart with at least some radial clearance from the shroud in the grind and post-grind operations.
