Abstract: A control valve is fluidly coupled to chambers containing fluid of different pressures for regulating flow therebetween. The control valve has a valve housing having a chamber fluidly coupled to a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber. A fluid flow regulation member is disposed in the chamber and is configured to regulate fluid flow between the second chamber and the third chamber. A diaphragm is disposed substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the chamber in which longitudinal deflection of diaphragm is representative of the pressure in the first chamber.
Abstract: A flexible multi-processor communications system supports variable message lengths and variable groups and application designations at respective processors. The receiving processors determine what action, if any, needs to be taken in response to the combination of group and application information in the messages. The receiving processors can include pluralities of pre-stored groups and applications along with associated priorities and the functions to perform.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for preventing contamination of building regions or zones from unwanted chemical or biological agents during and after a chemical or biological attack. One or more inflatable occlusion devices are preferably provided for occluding or filling selected regions within a building. The occlusion devices can be inflated to, for example, help prevent the building HVAC system or corresponding duct work from delivering a chemical or biological agent from one location to another within a building. The occlusion devices can also be used to occlude or occupy entire building regions or sections, such as entire rooms, hallways, windows, doorways, etc., or parts thereof, to help protect these regions from a harmful agent during an attack, and/or to provide a protective shell over or around selected equipment.
Abstract: A navigation system may be used to generate a navigation map for a flight display for an aircraft. The navigation map may include waypoint symbols representing various waypoints, landmark symbols representing various landmarks, and/or navigation data symbols representing various navigation data. Upon receiving a user input selecting a waypoint, the navigation system generates a waypoint locator symbol for the corresponding selected waypoint and generates a waypoint pointer symbol between the waypoint locator symbol and a position on the navigation map representing a present position. In some instances, the navigation system generates a selected waypoint symbol within the waypoint locator symbol.
Abstract: A wireless security system using multiple receivers in which each RF receiver can monitor the messages being sent to the control by the other receivers via constant monitoring of the bi-directional communication between the control and all of the other receivers on the bus. If a message in a first receiver's transmission buffer matches a message that has already been acknowledged by the control from a second receiver, the first receiver can discard its duplicate message. This significantly reduces the number of messages that the control's communication bus needs to handle, especially during the disarmed state of the system as indicated earlier. Coincidently, the amount of processing in the control is also reduced.
Abstract: The present invention comprises a system, method, and computer program product for suppressing terrain returns in weather radar images. A weather radar display system includes a memory, a terrain database, a display, and a display processor coupled to the memory, terrain database, and the display. The display processor includes a first component configured to extract radar return data stored in the memory based on aircraft position, a second component configured to extract data stored in the terrain database based on aircraft position, and a third component configured to selectively accept or discards or otherwise segregates data for display based upon the data extracted from memory and the data extracted from the terrain database.
Abstract: A turbofan engine throttle control system and method for eliminating dead bands in the throttle control by decreasing and increasing the fuel flow to the engine during transition from the scheduled core speed to scheduled fan speed of the engine to effect a smooth and continuous transition from the core speed to the fan speed and vice-versa. A signal is generated to open and close a valve system to augment and decrease the fuel flow in response to sensing different throttle lever angles.
Abstract: A network interactive apparatus and a method for the retrieval, storage and analysis of time variable data. An interactive session is conducted with a user via a network, such as the network may be the Internet or World Wide Web, to obtain a user definition of a first time variable data item, its location on the network, and a sampling interval. The values or content of the data item are then obtained at sample times defined by the sampling interval. Another interactive session is conducted to determine a second data item for comparative analysis with the first data item. The analysis is then presented to the user in a format such as a graph, a table, or the like.

Abstract: An integrated circuit signal isolator includes a magnetic field sensor in a first metal layer formed over a semiconductor substrate. A first dielectric layer is formed over the first metal layer, and an input coil in a second metal layer is formed over the first dielectric layer. Additionally, a second dielectric layer is formed over the second metal layer, and a feedback coil in a third metal layer is formed over the second dielectric layer. The feedback coil is coupled to an output of the magnetic field sensor.
Abstract: An electrical power system includes an electric power source, for example, an electrical machine, capable of supplying AC power to a load; a power converter connected to the electric power source; a position estimator for receiving a current feedback signal in Park vector format and providing a synchronous reference frame without the need, for example, of a rotor position sensor in the electrical machine; and a controller configured to provide a voltage command for controlling the power converter, the controller receiving the current feedback signal and a current reference in Park vector format and using the synchronous reference frame, the current feedback signal, and the current reference to produce the voltage command.
Abstract: A radiation hardening circuit that includes two series-connected transistors that can replace any single transistor in a circuit. The hardening circuit includes a resistor that has a first node and a second node, a first transistor having a source terminal, a gate terminal, a drain terminal, and a body terminal. The first node of the resistor may be conductively connected to the drain terminal of the first transistor and the second node of the resistor is conductively connected to the body terminal of the first transistor. The hardening circuit also includes a second transistor in series with the first transistor, driven so that both transistors are off or on at any given time. The circuit is resistant to radiation-induced events due to the body bias of the first transistor, the off state of the second transistor, and the current limiting effect of the resistor.
Abstract: A microelectromechanical device is formed in a silicon semiconductor substrate. A metalization layer is formed on a glass wafer. A metal cap layer is then formed on the metalization layer, such that combined layers have a small surface work function that is less than approximately 5.17 eV. The semiconductor substrate is anodically bonded to the glass wafer, and then etched to remove silicon from the structures without significant excess etching of the microelectromechanical device, thus maintaining good control over critical dimensions of the microelectromechanical device.
Abstract: An air turbine starter valve able to open despite being frozen shut. Dual actuators apply sufficient torque upon an air turbine starter valve to overcome obstructions presented by frozen moisture. By applying separate and generally-aligned torques, the actuators are able to provide sufficient force to overcome the adhesion provided by frozen moisture between the valve plate and adjacent structures.

Abstract: Toughened biaxially oriented polyamide films prepared by dry blending i) a polyamide homopolymer, copolymer, or blends thereof; and ii) a functionalized polyolefin terpolymer comprising maleic anhydride, ethyl acrylate, and an olefin, to thereby form a dry mixture. The dry mixture is melted to form a polymer blend, which is then formed into a polymer film. The edges of the film are pinned to a casting roll, and the film is plasticized in at least one water bath. The polymer film is subsequently biaxially oriented. The result is a toughened biaxially oriented film which is resistant to pinholes, cracks, and other structural defects. Such films are particularly suited for making packaging materials for various food products.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a microactuator device includes a plurality of generally parallel thin flexible sheets bonded together in a predetermined pattern to form an array of unit cells. Preferably, each of the sheets has only a single electrode layer located on one side of the sheet. Pairs of such sheets are then bonded together at spaced bonding locations with the electrode layers facing one another. Several sets of such sheet pairs can then be bonded together to form a microactuator device.
