Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for sampling images using minimum mean square error subpixel-based down-sampling (MMSE-SD) are presented herein. A partition component can receive a first array of pixels, and divide the first array of pixels into two-dimensional (2-D) blocks of pixels. Further, a sampling component can diagonally down-sample subpixels of a block of the 2-D blocks, and generate a second array of pixels based on the down-sampled subpixels. The sampling component can alternately sample subpixels of adjacent pixels of the block in a diagonal direction, and generate the second array of pixels based on the subpixels. A reconstruction component can create a virtual image based on, at least in part, the second array of pixels. A MMSE-SD component can determine an optimal low resolution image based on, at least in part, respective color components of the virtual image and a high resolution image associated with the first array of pixels.

Abstract: A system, structure, and method of making the structure are disclosed for generating a large chemical potential difference between spin-up and spin-down electrons in non-magnetic materials. The device includes an inverse spin valve of a sandwiched layer structure with alternating non-magnetic and magnetic layers. In an embodiment of the invention, the structure is a tri-layer device with a magnetic layer sandwiched by two non-magnetic metals. Once the inverse spin valve structure is provided, an external electric field is applied to the inverse spin valve to generate a large chemical potential difference between the spin-up and spin-down electrons. In an embodiment of the invention, this feature is exploited to create a tunable light emitting diode or laser. In an embodiment of the invention, a dynamical magnetism is induced and controlled in the valve by an electric field. The dynamical magnetization may be used as spin source, or in electronic storage devices.

Abstract: Provided is a high temperature-resistant metal adhesive containing hyperbranched poly(triazole)s synthesized by in situ azide/alkyne click polymerization. Also provided is a method for preparing the same adhesives by in situ click polymerization of azide and alkyne monomers on metal substrates. The method is optimized to get high adhesive strength at room temperature or elevated temperatures by analyzing the effects of monomer ratio, curing temperature and time, and annealing temperature and time. The hyberbranched poly(triazole)s adhesive has comparable or better temperature resistance compared with known high temperature epoxy metal adhesives, and it is the first high temperature metal adhesive using hyperbranched poly(triazole)s prepared by in situ azide/alkyne click polymerization.

Abstract: A method for and devices utilizing monolithic integration of enhancement-mode and depletion-mode AlGaN/GaN heterojunction field-effect transistors (HFETs) is disclosed. Source and drain ohmic contacts of HFETs are first defined. Gate electrodes of the depletion-mode HFETs are then defined. Gate electrodes of the enhancement-mode HFETs are then defined using fluoride-based plasma treatment and high temperature post-gate annealing of the sample. Device isolation is achieved by either mesa etching or fluoride-based plasma treatment. This method provides a complete planar process for GaN-based integrated circuits favored in high-density and high-speed applications.

Abstract: Metal induced polycrystallized silicon is used as the anode in a light emitting device, such as an OLED or AMOLED. The polycrystallized silicon is sufficiently non-absorptive, transparent and made sufficiently conductive for this purpose. A thin film transistor can be formed onto the polycrystallized silicon anode, with the silicon anode acting as the drain of the thin film transistor, thereby simplifying production.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus relates to examining respective collections of coefficients out of a plurality of collections of coefficients according to a global coding order of the plurality of collections of coefficients, the respective collections of coefficients having respective priority levels as well as respective pluralities of coding units and truncation points which correspond to the coding units. In response to determining that an examined collection of coefficients out of the plurality of collections of coefficients has a priority level equal to a global priority level, encoding a first un-encoded coding unit according to a local coding order of the collection of coefficients and reducing the priority level of the collection of coefficients; and after each of the collections of coefficients in the plurality are examined, decreasing the global priority level.

Abstract: Systems and methods for collaborative streaming among mobile terminals. Periodically, the mobile terminals may pull a portion of the data stream from a content provider coupled thereto over a primary channel and distribute the pulled data to neighboring mobile terminals, possibly including other mobile terminals pulling portions of the data stream from the content provider and passive mobile terminals that are only receiving pulled data. By transferring data over the secondary channel, the cost to any one terminal to receive the data stream is reduced.

Abstract: A method of fabricating AlGaN/GaN enhancement-mode heterostructure field-effect transistors (HFET) using fluorine-based plasma immersion or ion implantation. The method includes: 1) generating gate patterns; 2) exposing the AlGaN/GaN heterostructure in the gate region to fluorine-based plasma treatment with photoresist as the treatment mask in a self-aligned manner; 3) depositing the gate metal to the plasma treated AlGaN/GaN heterostructure surface; 4) lifting off the metal except the gate electrode; and 5) high temperature post-gate annealing of the sample. This method can be used to shift the threshold voltage of a HFET toward a more positive value, and ultimately convert a depletion-mode HFET to an enhancement-mode HFET (E-HFET).

Abstract: A method of video distribution within a peer-to-peer network. Once the video has initially been downloaded from a server, various fragments of it reside on various peers of the network. At the location of each fragment, the peer which stores it preferably also carries pointers to preceding-fragment, following-fragment, and same-fragment locations. This provides a list-driven capability so that, once a user has attached to any fragment of the program, the user can then transition according to the previous-fragment and following-fragment pointers to play, fast-forward, or rewind the program.

Abstract: A low-dropout regulator with a single-transistor-control providing improved transient response and stability is disclosed. The single-transistor-control provides a dynamic resistance at the output of the regulator for minimizing undershoot and overshoot, and hence improves transient response. Since the single-control transistor reduces the output resistance of the regulator, the output pole is pushed to a sufficiently high frequency without affecting stability. Therefore, the limited choice of combinations of the output capacitance and its equivalent-series-resistance is substantially relaxed.
