    Abstract: For producing a cylindrical surface that has a surface structure of predetermined geometry suitable for application of material by thermal spraying, a geometrically predetermined groove structure of minimal depth and width is introduced into the surface by a tool embodied as a follow-on tool in that a groove cross-section is processed successively to a final size. In order for the surface to be producible in mass production with constant quality, the groove structure is worked in such that first a base groove is introduced with a groove bottom width that is smaller than the groove bottom width of the finished groove. Subsequently, at least one flank of the base groove is processed for producing an undercut groove profile by a non-cutting action or cutting action wherein the introduced groove structure is deformed in such a way that the groove openings are constricted by upsetting deformations of material.

    Abstract: A process and apparatus for producing a brake drum or a brake disc include a carrier component formed of a light metal alloy which can be easily cast and machined and a friction lining component formed of a light metal alloy reinforced by short non-metallic fibers or particles by casting a first one of the components in a mold, cooling the cast component to achieve dimensional stability, casting the other component onto or around the first component, the components being designed to interlock mechanically as a unitary composite structure after cooling. The casting materials may be introduced into the die in a molten state or a thixotropic state. Core pullers are provided to create space in the die cavity for the second component after the first component has been cast and cooled to a dimensionally stable state.

    Abstract: A method of producing sectional strips and sectional sheets of different thicknesses over the width, in which at least two metal strips or metal sheets of different widths are joined to each other by roll bonded cladding which thins the thickness of the overlaid strips. One strip is wider than the other strip which is narrower. The two strips are arranged symmetrically to the rolling direction center line. The facing surfaces of the two overlaid strips may be prepared for bonding them. The invention also concerns sectional strips or sectional sheets produced by the method.
