Publication number: 20140001180Abstract: A liquid pouch is comprised by a polymeric film material bag which has a front and a rear wall. The front and rear walls define a top and bottom edge and opposed side edges. A dispensing fitment is secured in an upper region of the pouch spaced from the top edge. The dispensing fitment has a rigid spout neck with a removable closure member. An attachment flange wall surrounds the spout neck and is secured to the plastic film material. The spout neck has a base formation shaped for friction fit retention in a connecting slot of a support member. The pitcher has a connecting slot formed in an upper edge thereof with the slot having a bottom retention section to receive the engageable formation in retention fit therein to retain the bag containing liquid secured thereto for dispensing the liquid through the spout neck.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2012Publication date: January 2, 2014Applicant: HOOD PACKAGING CORPORATIONInventors: Paul D. Patent number: 8485955Abstract: An automatic handle attaching method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. A delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. A bag handling mechanism has an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm to orient the bag engaging hand in alignment with a top one of the groups of bags to transfer the bag to a handle securing station where the bag handle is welded thereto. After the handle is welded its relationship with respect to other parts of the bag is verified.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2012Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Hood Packaging CorporationInventors: Manuel Chiu, Robert Lauzon, Malcolm Spenceley, Ken McLaughlin, Laurens Vanpagee, Slaven Nedic, Chris Latour, Brent Bell, Chris Girard, Christine Burns, Craig Courteau

Publication number: 20120207954Abstract: The present invention provides a novel packaging laminate designed particularly for packaging highly hygroscopic, pelleted, flowable materials. It is a multilayer structure which incorporates a layer of heat-sealable polymeric material which has had a thin film of aluminum deposited onto it by vapour coating. This layer combined with a further effective barrier layer provides the low WVTR in the range required by such highly hygroscopic materials. This laminate can be used with additional structural layers of paper or plastic, to form bags that have the features of very low WVTR, excellent puncture resistance, and excellent heat sealability.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2011Publication date: August 16, 2012Applicant: Hood Packaging CorporationInventors: Jean-Francois DALPE, Ian LLOYD-GEORGE

Patent number: 8137253Abstract: An automatic handle attaching system and method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. The system comprises a delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. Two or more automated bag handling mechanisms are disposed spaced-apart adjacent the conveyor at respective bag transfer stations. Each of the bag handling mechanisms are independently operated and have an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2009Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Hood Packaging CorporationInventors: Manuel Chiu, Robert Lauzon, Malcolm Spenceley, Ken McLaughlin, Laurens Vanpagee, Slaven Nedic, Chris Latour, Brent Bell, Chris Girard, Christine Burns, Craig Courteau

Publication number: 20110019937Abstract: A heavy-duty plastic bag is comprised of a flat front panel, a back panel and gusseted longitudinal side panels. One of the gusseted longitudinal side panels has extended opposed gusseted side walls to form bag carrying end panels. The bag carrying end panels are sealed with one another and are each provided with three spaced-apart handle holes for ease of carrying the bag by one or both ends of a person with the bag disposed horizontally to facilitate manipulation in carrying of the bag. The bag carrying end panels provide for reinforced hand holes and comfort to the hands of a user person. The gusseted side panels and front and back panels provide a heavy-duty plastic bag with four display panels.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2009Publication date: January 27, 2011Applicant: HOOD PACKAGING CORPORATIONInventors: Brian John STEINWAGNER, Kerry Lee RING, Brian Andrew MUNSTERMAN

Patent number: 6883964Abstract: A multiwall paper bag for bulk material, especially particulate or powdered material, has an inner ply of a high performance kraft paper, an intermediate layer or ply of a thin polyethylene secured to the outer surface of the inner ply, and an outer ply of high performance kraft paper that is secured to the intermediate ply. At least one end of the bag is closed during initial formation of the bag. The other end can be left open for filling and subsequent closing, or it can be initially closed and provided with a filling valve. At least the intermediate ply, and preferably the inner ply as well, is microperforated for venting of air during filling. The intermediate ply is secured to the inner ply either by a plurality of longitudinally extending transversely space apart lines of adhesive or the securing adhesive is spread completely over the mating surfaces of the two plies.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2002Date of Patent: April 26, 2005Assignee: Hood Packaging Corporation/Emballage Hood CorporationInventor: Sylvain Beaulieu
