Patent number: 6749929Abstract: A heat-insulating an soundproofing lining for an engine compartment is disclosed, and a method of manufacturing the same, are disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the lining includes a first covering layer facing the engine. A duroplastic foam layer contacts the covering layer. A soundproofing layer contacts the duroplastic foam layer. A second covering layer contacts the soundproofing layer. According to another embodiment, a method of manufacturing a heat-insulating and soundproofing lining for an engine compartment is disclosed. The method includes the steps of (1) providing a first covering layer; (2) providing a duroplastic foam layer on the first covering layer; (3) providing a soundproofing layer on the first covering layer; (4) providing a second covering layer; and (5) pressing the layers together at an increased temperature and an increased pressure.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2000Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: HP-Chemie Pelzer Research and Development Ltd.Inventors: Michael Fred Enkler, Michael Bopp

Patent number: 6715842Abstract: A vehicle wheel includes a wheel rim having an outside carrying airborne noise-absorbing fiber material in the form of a carrier layer having fibers projecting radially outwardly of an outside of the rim. The rim has an interior tire bead contact area which is spaced from an edge of the fiber material a distance at least equal to the length of the fibers to prevent the latter from entering the tire bead contact area. The fiber material is also preferably located at a depressed area between rim beads and the length of the fibers is preferably between 5 mm and 40 mm.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2002Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: HP-Chemie Pelzer Research and Development Ltd.Inventors: Michael Bopp, Gabriele Brade-Scholz, Olaf Doehring, Martin Herf, Ivo Lorenz

Patent number: 6299961Abstract: The invention relates to recyclable textile floor coverings for motor vehicles with a multi-layer structure and processes for their preparation. In particular, recyclable textile floor coverings for motor vehicles with a multi-layer structure include a foam layer, a separation layer, a heavy layer, and a textile carpet, wherein the adhesiveness of the separation layer with respect to the heavy layer is different than the adhesiveness of the separation layer with respect to the foam layer. In another embodiment, the separation layer is separably bonded to the heavy layer by spot bonding and/or is separably bonded to the foam layer by spot bonding. The separation layer allows separate recycling of the foam layer on one hand and the textile carpet including the heavy layer on the other hand.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1997Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: HP-Chemie Pelzer Research and Development Ltd.Inventor: Helmut Pelzer

Patent number: 6019923Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a process for producing decorable moulded parts made of plastic materials, whereby an extrudable thermoplastic material is injected or pressed behind a non-dried or non-cured flat decorative layer or paint layer. In a preferred embodiment, the decorative layer or paint layer is powder coated, whereby the support film, the paint layer and the thermoplastic material are coextruded together. This process allows decorable moulded parts having complex geometrical shapes to be manufactured.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1998Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: HP-Chemie Pelzer Research & Development Ltd.Inventor: Helmut Pelzer

Patent number: 5935677Abstract: A process for the preparation of a textile floor covering for a motor vehicle includes the steps of wiper blade coating a mixture (2) of foam off-cuts and a self-curing binder in a matrix form (1) of a floor panel of a motor vehicle in a desired layer thickness profile; pressing onto the mixture a textile carpet (4) provided with a heavy layer (3) thereby adjusting the desired density of the foam off-cuts; and curing the binder during the pressing to form an absorption foam backing layer and to bond the backing layer to the heavy layer. In an alternative embodiment, the absorption foam backing layer is first formed and then adhesively bonded to the heavy layer. By means of the invention a strong bond between the backing layer and heavy layer, and a uniform density and distribution of the foam off-cuts is obtainable, whereby a high degree of acoustic dampening efficiency is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: HP-Chemie Pelzer Research & Development Ltd.Inventor: Helmut Pelzer

Patent number: 5624619Abstract: Subject matter of the present invention are molded articles with leather-like surface properties in the automobile industry as well as processes for the production thereof. These can be prepared in such a way that ground waste leather is added to thermoplastic materials or elastic duroplasts in an amount of up to 95% per weight. By this way, a leather-like soft feel and a certain water absorption capacity can be attained in thermoplastic materials.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1995Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: HP - Chemie Pelzer Research & Development, Ltd.Inventor: Helmut Pelzer
