Abstract: A liquid chromatography column that can be rapidly packed without a reservoir column is disclosed. The column includes a double sealed compressor piston with a mixture delivery bore extending through the body of the piston. Resilient sealing means are provided in annular grooves provided in the piston. The piston retains a frit and slurry scraper is mounted to the piston. A method of packing such a column is also disclosed. An outlet end plate including solvent drainage bores is provided. A threaded end cap including radial slots in an inner surface for a threaded column is disclosed, as is an adaptor for joining flanged and threaded columns.
Abstract: In chromatography columns, a pair of end plates mounting upon integral column flanges provided at either end of said chromatography column, each end plate mounting a series of frits and O-rings in place within cylindrical grooves provided within each end of the column, each end plate arranged contiguously with the enclosed frits incorporating a series of radially disposed grooves, to provide for dissemination of the incoming chemicals uniformly about the entire cross-section of the column chamber, to provide for efficient dispersion of said chemicals throughout the entire slurry packing contained therein, and incorporating equivalent grooves upon the inner surface of the end plate connecting with the outlet end of the column, to assure uniformity of collection of the chromatography treated chemicals as they are discharged to a location for usage or collection.
Abstract: A slurry compressor for obtaining a homogeneous absorbent bed in a chromatographic column wherein said compressor includes a shaped member having external dimensions slightly less than the internal dimensions of the column in which the bed of particles is being compressed. The compressor having an innermost portion and an outermost portion, integrally connected, the innermost portion being a solid segment incorporating a lower surface, while the outermost portion includes a hollowed interior forming a walled structure extending integrally from the solid segment, with the walled structure flaring slightly outwardly to assure a reasonably snug contact with the inner surface and interior wall of the associated column.
