  • Patent number: 10731390
Abstract: A door handle assembly includes a bracket mountable to the door and an insertion member received in and retained in the bracket via a retaining mechanism. The retaining mechanism includes a biasing member and a movable locking member that retains the insertion member in the bracket. The movable locking member is biased into a securing position by the biasing member when the insertion member is fully received in the bracket to retain the insertion member in the bracket. The movable locking member is selectively displaceable from the securing position against a force of the biasing member either to permit insertion of the insertion member in the bracket during assembly or to accommodate disassembly by permitting the insertion member to be removed from the bracket.

  • Patent number: 10262479
Abstract: A method includes determining a distance between a vehicle access device and a vehicle. The method also includes activating at least one communication node in response to the distance being less than a threshold distance, and transmitting a signal from the at least one communication node. The method further includes gathering a plurality of received signal strength indication values corresponding to the signal, filtering the plurality of received signal strength indication values, and identifying at least one communication node corresponding to a highest value of the plurality of received signal strength indication values. The method also includes determining whether the vehicle access device is disposed in an interior portion of the vehicle or on an exterior of the vehicle based on the highest value of the plurality of received signal strength indication values.

  • Patent number: 10192379
Abstract: A system for mitigating relay station attack in a wireless communication system is provided. The system may include a first wireless communication node and a second wireless communication node. The first wireless communication node is operable to transmit data including an encrypted transmit power value. The second wireless communication node is operable to receive the data, decrypt the encrypted transmit power value, and determine a received signal strength indication value of the data. The second wireless communication node may also be operable to compare the received signal strength indication value to the decrypted transmit power value and prevent communication between the first wireless communication node and the second wireless communication node based on the comparison between the received signal strength indication value and the decrypted transmit power value.

  • Patent number: 9972150
Abstract: Vehicular systems and related methods offer improved user control over activations of vehicular components. User intent to perform an action can be detected using one or more sensors. The user may be prompted by the vehicle to verify the intent by further user behavior. The intent may also be confirmed by requiring that a set of conditions be fulfilled before the action associated with the intent is performed. For example, a sensed gesture and specific position of a key fob may need to both be established before the vehicle performs the action associated with the intent.

  • Patent number: 9963109
Abstract: A passive entry system for an automotive vehicle that is configured to prevent relay attacks by analyzing magnet vectors and angles created by a plurality of antennas mounted on the vehicle is disclosed. A vehicle including a control unit configured to broadcast a wake-up signal to prompt a fob to power-up if the fob is in a low-power consumption mode and to transmit signals through a plurality of antennas coupled to the vehicle is provided, along with a fob configured to recognize the wake-up signal and to generate a response signal for the control unit in response to recognize the wake-up signal. The fob includes a controller that is programmed to receive signals transmitted from each of the plurality of antennas coupled to the vehicle, retrieve constant values from stored a memory, and calculate a magnetic integrity defining the relative position of each of the plurality of antennas.

  • Patent number: 9718414
Abstract: An assembly for deploying a device from a cavity. The assembly includes a translatable cover and a mounting surface defining an opening sized to receive the translatable cover thereover. The device is received in the cavity beneath the mounting surface and is actuatable between a first device position and a second device position. A plurality of linkages are positioned within the cavity. At least one of the plurality of linkages is coupled to a power source for actuating the plurality of linkages and at least one of the plurality of linkages is coupled to the translatable cover and to the device. Thus, when the power source actuates the plurality of linkages, the translatable cover is translated relative to the mounting surface from a first cover position to a second cover position and the device is actuated from the first device position to the second device position.

  • Patent number: 9404292
Abstract: When activated, a handle assembly selectively allows the door latch of a door of a motor vehicle to be released. The handle assembly includes a base fixedly secured to the door and a handle assembly which in its passive state has minimal to no presence in the opening chain of the door latch. The handle assembly includes a handle strap with a handle grip or activation lever which allows completion of the force chain to the latch, thus selectively allowing desired door opening.

  • Patent number: 9394729
Abstract: A handle assembly for preventing inadvertent opening of a motor vehicle door during a crash event. The handle assembly includes an activation mechanism coupled to an electrically-activated leg. When the activation mechanism is activated, then the electrically-activated leg is moved to an engaged position to engage an actuation pawl to prevent rotation of the actuation pawl so that, upon actuation of a handle strap, the actuation pawl engages and actuates the door latch release. However, if the activation mechanism is not activated, then the leg does not engage the pawl, and a movement of the handle strap does not actuate the door latch release as the pawl is permitted to rotate.

  • Patent number: 9062477
Abstract: A vehicle outer door handle assembly includes a base, a latch release mechanism, and an inertial catch. The latch release mechanism includes a countermass assembly with a primary catch point and a secondary catch point, and the latch release mechanism and the counterassembly rotate between a rest position and an active position in response to movement of a door handle. The inertial catch includes a blocking shoulder and rotates from an unblocking position to a blocking position in response to inertia forces acting upon the inertial catch. When the inertial catch is in its blocking position, it prevents the countermass assembly from rotating into its active position by the blocking shoulder engaging the primary catch point or the secondary catch point.

  • Patent number: 8636309
Abstract: The invention relates to an external handle on doors or hatches of vehicles, using a two piece (10, 20) housing, wherein a cavity (21) is generated between said pieces. A sensor (31, 32) is arranged in said cavity in a container (30). On operation, the sensor carries out certain functions in the lock. According to the invention, failures caused by the ingress of fluids into the cavity (21) can be avoided, wherein the container (30) is formed from an elastic molded mass (35), in which the sensor (31, 32) and optionally some further electric and/or electronic components for the sensor operation are embedded. An elastic surface (36) is achieved on at least one end piece of the container (30) by means of the molded mass (35). When assembled, the container (30) is pressed (41) with said elastic surface (36) against an inner surface (29) of the housing piece (10, 20).

  • Patent number: 7669444
Abstract: A steering lock assembly that does not require tools for fixing a lock bolt cover relative to a housing to cover a cavity formed in the housing includes a housing having a cavity formed therein with a lock bolt received in the cavity. A lock bolt cover covering the cavity has an opening through which the lock bolt extends. A snap belt is fixed to one of the lock bolt cover and the housing and engages the other of the lock bolt cover and the housing to fix the lock bolt cover relative to the housing. In one embodiment, crush ribs formed on the snap belt minimizes contact between the cover and housing to minimize rattle.
