  • Publication number: 20030193888
Abstract: A method and apparatus for encoding data for transmission in a communication system provides increased efficiency in bandwidth utilization through higher data rates, lower error rates, lower power levels, and/or increased capacity. A set of orthogonal codes is partitioned into subsets. The data to be transmitted is partitioned into packets of bit sequences, each of which is mapped to an orthogonal code in an assigned subset. The number of members in a particular subset is determined by the relative transmission requirements of the data signal the subset will be used to encode.

  • Patent number: 6631871
Abstract: A method and system for controlling a movable appendage on an aerospace vehicle independent from the position of the aerospace vehicle. First and second beacons containing actual position information for the movable appendage are tracked and acquired by first and second beacon tracking sites. The beacon tracking sites report the azimuth and elevation data relating to the position of the movable appendage to a processor where a correction command is determined based on an error calculated from the position data and a desired position. The correction command is communicated to the movable appendage so that appropriate correction to the desired position can be made.

  • Patent number: 6630367
Abstract: A method of making a micro electro-mechanical switch or tunneling sensor. A cantilevered beam structure and a mating structure are defined on a first substrate or wafer; and at least one contact structure and a mating structure are defined on a second substrate or wafer, the mating structure on the second substrate or wafer being of a complementary shape to the mating structure on the first substrate or wafer. A bonding layer, preferably a eutectic bonding layer, is provided on at least one of the mating structures. The mating structure of the first substrate is moved into a confronting relationship with the mating structure of the second substrate or wafer. Pressure is applied between the two substrates so as to cause a bond to occur between the two mating structures at the bonding or eutectic layer. Then the first substrate or wafer is removed to free the cantilevered beam structure for movement relative to the second substrate or wafer.

  • Publication number: 20030174732
Abstract: This disclosure relates to the transmission of binary data over a network between a transmission host and a receiving host. The transmission host receives packets of data including data in a first format which may be ASCII formatted and contain 6 bits-per-byte words, and including data which had an original binary format containing greater than 6 bits-per-byte words (such as 8 bits-per-byte) and which has been encoded (such as Uuencoded) to 6 bits-per-byte words. The transmission host searches the packets and identifies the encoded data and reverse codes the encoded data to its original binary format, before transmitting the data on a suitable network transmission media that can transmit both ASCII formatted data and data having greater than 6 bit-per-byte formats. The transmission host also includes an application packet demultiplexer for separating the incoming data according its application such as HTTP, NNTP, FTP, etc.

  • Publication number: 20030177396
Abstract: An approach for adaptively providing network performance enhancing functions in a secure environment, such as a virtual private network, is disclosed. Traffic, for example, Internet Protocol (IP) packets, is received for transport over an access network (e.g., satellite network). Next, characteristics (e.g., latency) of the access network are determined. A connection (which supports the performance enhancing functions) is selectively established based on the determined characteristics for transport the received packets over the access network. An encrypted tunnel is provided over the established connection to transmit the received packets.

  • Patent number: 6613661
Abstract: An integrated circuit is protected from reverse engineering by connecting doped circuit elements of like conductivity with a doped implant in the substrate, rather than with a metallized interconnect. The doped circuit elements and their corresponding implant interconnections can be formed in a common fabrication step with common implant masks, such that they have an integral structure with similar dopant concentrations. The metallization above the substrate surface can be designed to provide further masking of the interconnects, and microbridges can be added to span strips of transistor gate material in the interconnect path.

  • Patent number: 6608993
Abstract: An audio data file-handling device which may receive one or more audio data files from a base station. This file transfer may be accomplished utilizing wireless transmissions. Furthermore, the base station may accumulate one or more audio data files from a variety of content sources and communication paths. An audio data file distribution system which accumulates audio data files in a base station and uploads at least one accumulated audio data file to an audio data file handling device. A user interface, such as a wireless control unit, may send a trigger signal to the base station either directly or via the audio data file-handling device. This triggering signal triggers the upload of audio data files from the base station to the audio data file-handling device. The triggering signal may also be generated upon a vehicle start condition or upon the arrival of a designated time. Furthermore, cellular or other wireless networks may be utilized to transfer audio data files over long distances.
