The method includes configuring a X×Y MIMO antenna system using X-antennae having dominant line-of-sight (LoS) of Y-antennae; transmitting, simultaneously, a Tx signal as X Tx signals on a MIMO channel with the X-antennae; receiving the X Tx signals on the MIMO channel with the Y-antennae as Y Rx signals, wherein each of the Y-antennae generate one of the Y Rx signals; and ground-interference processing the X Tx signals or the Y Rx signals to recover the Tx signal; satellite-interference processing the X Tx signals or the Y Rx signals to recover the Tx signal. In the method, the ground interference processing includes countermeasures as either pre-interference processing when the X-antennae are disposed on a ground or post-interference processing when the X-antennae are disposed in a Geosynchronous orbit satellite.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-storage media, for improving communication throughput despite periodic blockages. In some implementations, a method includes receiving, by a receiver and from a transmitter, code blocks transmitted according to a first set of communication parameters that includes one or more first interleaver parameters used to interleave information in the code blocks prior to transmission. Corrupted portions of at least some of the received code blocks are identified. A blockage duration and a blockage interval of a blockage of communication channel between the transmitter and the receiver are determined based on the corrupted portions of the received code blocks. A second set of communication parameters that includes one or more second interleaver parameters are determined based on the blockage duration and blockage interval.
Abstract: An efficient return channel spectrum utilization technique for communication systems supporting adaptive spread spectrum. Requests for bandwidth allocation using a spread factor are analyzed to determine if there are any channels capable of supporting the spread factor. The request is acknowledged if at least one channel is capable of supporting the request. Adjacent channels required to accommodate the requested spread factor are reserved, and additional bandwidth requests are allocated on non-reserved channels.
Abstract: Various arrangements are presented for optimizing data transmission between a satellite and a user equipment. A satellite gateway system may receive a message from the user equipment indicative of a current location of the user equipment. Data may be retrieved from the Internet to be transmitted to the user equipment via the satellite. The satellite gateway system may transmit a downlink message to the satellite that comprises the retrieved data and beam steering data. The beam steering data may instruct the satellite to target a downlink spot beam on the current location of the user equipment based on the message received from the user equipment. The retrieved data may be transmitted to the user equipment via the targeted downlink spot beam.
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for synchronizing timing for a terminal in a satellite communication system. Upon detecting a service interruption, first timing markers are extrapolated from timing information received prior to the service interruption. Second timing markers are also extrapolated from timing information received subsequent to the service interruption. Timing for the terminal is then synchronized with the gateway based on a timing difference between the first timing markers and the second timing markers.
Abstract: A satellite communication system and method for resizing an outroute carrier from a gateway to a terminal population including determining, at the gateway, an insufficiency based on an Uplink Power Control (ULPC) function in conjunction with an Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) function failing to maintain the outroute carrier in operation; and downsizing, at the gateway based on the insufficiency, the outroute carrier by decreasing a symbol rate of the outroute carrier from the gateway while maintaining the aggregate carrier output power level to increase an outroute carrier margin, where the insufficiency is based on a fade. The outroute carrier may be upsized when the insufficiency expires or is reduced.
Abstract: A method and system for improving link performance for a user terminal (UT) in a satellite network is disclosed.
