  • Patent number: 5669902
Abstract: The relatively loose fiting external portion of the garment has a waistband. An internal shell is adapted to extend between the legs of the wearer from the front portion of the waistband to the rear portion of the waistband. The shell forms a snug fitting support for an absorbent pad which retains the pad in a position closely adjacent the body. The shell is preferably made of mesh-like elastic material. A liquid impermeable pouch may be attached to the shell to receive the pad in a removeable fashion.

  • Patent number: 4372309
Abstract: A diffuser layer is interposed between layers of moisture absorbent material situated within a cover sheet. The diffuser layer comprises one or more tissue layers, each having a plurality of parallel corrugations to disperse moisture by capillary action. A compression seal is situated in the cover sheet separating two pad parts. The compression seal comprises first and second crimps, spaced by a section of the cover sheet. The ends of the pad parts are also sealed by crimping. The absorbent material is wood pulp impregnated with a starch polymer or an acrylic-based polymer to increase the absorbency thereof. An agent may be included in the pulp to prevent the biological degradation of urine. Substances may also be included in the pulp for absorbing volatile nitrogenous compounds and odors. In addition, a moisture or chemical sensitive indicator strip may be situated on the cover sheet.

  • Patent number: 4352356
Abstract: The garment has a body portion with an internal pouch which is adapted to receive an absorbent pad. The pouch is formed of a liquid impervious panel situated adjacent to the body portion and a liquid penetrable panel secured along its sides to the body portion. The sides of the liquid impervious panel extend from the body portion toward the liquid penetrable panel, to which same are attached, so as to form a liquid retention barrier along the sides of the pouch. The body portion is formed of a knitted fabric including interlocked courses of a staple fiber yarn and of a bulked continuous filament yarn. The liquid impervious panel includes a knitted fabric coated with polyurethane. The liquid penetrable panel comprises a polyester yarn knitted into a fabric with a semi-cardigan stitch.
