Abstract: A quick connect device for well tools that allows for the connection of two components, such as a setting tool and a plug, without the need for screwing the two components together.
Abstract: A downhole explosive detonation comprises a high voltage electro-explosive initiator comprising an input high voltage power supply with a low impedance shunting fuse, a flexible electrical link and a capacitor discharge unit. Explosive is initiated in a direction approximately parallel, or in another version perpendicular to the capacitor discharge unit. A unique configuration and construction of the assembly allows installation through a small service port in the gun housing structure for more efficient gun arming. A real time downhole voltage monitoring is described that transmits voltage readings to the surface during a firing sequence.
Abstract: A box by pin perforating gun system using swaged down gun bodies, a removable cartridge to hold a detonator and switch, and an insulated charge holder as an electrical feed-through.

Abstract: A jet cutter apparatus and method for using a single bridge wire or a plurality of bridge wires to uniformly detonate a booster and thereby cause a uniform detonation of the explosives adjacent to the liners, thereby causing a uniform compression of the liners to form a uniform plasma jet that is substantially radially perpendicular to the jet cutter.

Abstract: A jet cutter venting apparatus and method for venting gases generated during deflagration. The venting apparatus and method including vent grooves inside the jet cutter providing a pathway for deflagration gases to escape. The venting apparatus and method also may include using notches or holes placed inside the jet cutter to facilitate the venting of gases during deflagration. The venting of the gases during deflagration facilitates pressure relief within the jet cutter and increases safety from accidental detonation during a fire.

Abstract: An apparatus for restraining the movement of a gun charge holder within a gun tube including a snap ring with an alignment end that engages an end fitting and the gun tube simultaneously, the snap ring further comprising a grounding hole to facilitate the grounding of the electronics and detonation devices within the gun charge holder.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for modifying downhole wellbore pressure at the instant that an explosive event occurs. By a significant temporary reduction in wellbore pressure, for example, an explosive cutter will be able to cut through thicker pipe in a deep well with high hydrostatic pressure. A favorable transient wellbore pressure is achieved by the selective timing of implosion and explosion devices, to improve the performance of certain explosive tools when subsequently initiated, such as shaped charge explosive cutters, severing tools, setting tools and perforating guns. As part of the system, each implosion or explosion device is initiated by a detonator having a preprogrammed control unit with a preselected timing delay to take advantage of the temporarily lowered wellbore pressure.
