Patent number: 7465314Abstract: A desiccant cartridge for use with a receiver/dryer of an automobile air-conditioning system. The desiccant cartridge contains a cup member and a cap member. The cap member includes a plurality of fingers located about a periphery thereof. The plurality of fingers engage the cup member to secure the cap member to the cup member. The plurality of fingers operate to facilitate insertion of the cap member into the cup member using a one-way lock-type arrangement. Accordingly, pushing the cap member downward into the open end of the cup member causes each of the plurality of fingers to deflect upward and slide along an interior surface free of protrusions of the cup member. Upward movement of the cap is limited by the plurality of fingers engaging the interior surface of the sidewall, which hold the cap member in place. Accordingly, the cap member can be inserted into and locks in the cup member at any position.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2006Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: Hutchinson FTS, Inc.Inventor: Daniel F. Patent number: 7387317Abstract: A hose coupling using at least one reinforcing ring to reinforce a hose coupling during a crimping process, the hose coupling having an inner sleeve, an outer sleeve coaxial with the inner sleeve, and a hose coaxially interposed therebetween. During the crimping process a crimping force is applied directly to the outer sleeve to form at least one depression that results in an area of peak crimp force on the inner sleeve, the depression helping to seal and lock the hose between the inner and outer sleeves. The reinforcing ring is positioned within the inner sleeve and concentric with the area of peak crimp force on the inner sleeve. Consequently, the reinforcing ring prevents the inner sleeve from deforming under the crimping force, thereby ensuring the integrity and long-term durability of the hose coupling.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2007Date of Patent: June 17, 2008Assignee: Hutchinson FTS, Inc.Inventor: Jerry H. Chisnell

Patent number: 7195283Abstract: A tubular connection for centering a tube within a female connecting block that has a throughbore with a chamfer, wherein a transition surface is defined between the chamfer and the throughbore. The tube has an upset bead, a tapered portion narrowing from the upset bead, and an end-form extending from the tapered portion, the end-form having an annular groove with an O-ring therein. The connection further includes a device for securing the tube within the female connecting block whereby the upset bead of the tube is caused to abut the female connecting block. The tube locates inside the female connecting block such that the end-form seals via the O-ring inside the throughbore of the female connecting block and the tapered portion of the tube sealingly engages against the transition surface of the female connecting block to keep the tube centered within the female connecting block and to form a secondary fluid-tight seal.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2005Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignee: Hutchinson, FTS, Inc.Inventor: Jerry H. Patent number: 7093461Abstract: A receiver-dryer of an integrated receiver-dryer-condenser for an air-conditioning system that maximizes a liquid phase of refrigerant therein for return to a sub-cooling stage of a condenser. A receiver-dryer vessel includes a base wall, a side wall extending from the base wall, and a concave end wall terminating the side wall. A refrigerant inlet pipe extends into the interior of the vessel and terminates in an exit end that faces the concave end wall of the vessel. The refrigerant inlet pipe is adapted for directing refrigerant into contact with the concave end wall such that the refrigerant impinges on the concave end wall for improved dispersion into a gaseous phase that accumulates in the upper portion of the vessel and a liquid phase that flows down the walls of the vessel to accumulate in the lower portion of the vessel and for improved separation of the liquid phase and to return to the sub-cooling stage of the condenser for improved sub-cooling of the liquid phase of the refrigerant.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2004Date of Patent: August 22, 2006Assignee: Hutchinson FTS, Inc.Inventors: Chhotu N. Patel, Paul Matthews Pickett, Jr.

Patent number: 6908117Abstract: An alignment device for squarely aligning a conduit within a conduit port of a housing. The alignment device includes a connecting block having a conduit passage therethrough and into which the conduit is trapped. The connecting block has a fastener passage therethrough that is laterally offset from the conduit passage. A fastener is threaded into the housing and is offset from the conduit port. The fastener includes an alignment sleeve that mounts to a portion thereof. The connecting block mounts to the housing and the conduit fits into the conduit port, whereby the alignment sleeve pilots the fastener passage of the connecting block to squarely align the conduit within the conduit port.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2000Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Hutchinson FTS, Inc.Inventors: Paul Matthews Pickett, Jr., Daniel Shelton
