  • Publication number: 20030023007
Abstract: A benzoxazine polymer having improved thermal properties. The properties are improved by inserting aromatic polyamines into the monomer, such as phenylenediamine, methylenedianiline, oxydianiline, diaminodiphenylsulfone, 2,2-bis(4-[aminophenoxy]phenyl)propane, 4,4′-oxydianiline, 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone, and diaminobenzanilide, to introduce internal benzoxazine groups that are crosslinking sites. The improved polymers can be converted into molding compounds, towpregs, and prepregs by being compounded with reinforcing fibers.

  • Patent number: 6273038
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders, comprising a movably mounted distribution element, wherein the distribution element in a first configuration fluidly couples an intake portion of a first cylinder of the plurality of cylinders with a combustion chamber of the first cylinder, and wherein the distribution element in a second configuration fluidly couples the combustion chamber of the first cylinder with an exhaust portion of the first cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6226992
Abstract: A heat converter engine comprising a crank shaft, an actuator assembly coupled to the crank shaft, and a heating means. The actuator assembly includes a plurality of shape memory elements that are malleable when below a critical temperature and return to their original shape when above the critical temperature. The heating means raises the temperature of a first portion of the shape memory elements above the critical temperature and a cooling means lowers the temperature of a second portion of the shape memory elements below the critical temperature. This action of heating and cooling the shape memory elements causes rotation of the crank shaft.

  • Patent number: 5422150
Abstract: A product having a wear-resistant surface wherein the product includes a substrate with cavity means in communication with a surface of the substrate wherein the cavity means has at least one wall having a length of at least 1/4". A fiber-reinforced polymer composite having at least some fibers between 1/2" and 2" in length forms a wear-resistant cladding over the surface of the substrate and fills the cavity means to mechanically anchor the cladding to the substrate.
