Abstract: A method for offshore load transfer and a floater for use in such load transfer are described. A hydraulic device for use in a horizontal positioning system for keeping the floater in position is also described. During the mounting and dismantling of large structures offshore, the floater will be exposed to wave and wind forces. By means of hydraulic jacks the floater is kept in a target position, within a horizontal frame. The jacks act as a positioning system and may also act as a sea fastening or sea securing system for the load when it is carried by the floater.
Abstract: A hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder supports a pair of non-circular discs and a circular pulley about which a hoisting cable and a carrying cable are trained. The discs are configured such that a constant force is exerted on a load supported by the hoisting cable independent of the variation in pressure in the cylinder due to displacement of the piston supporting the discs. The carrying cable comprises two runs; one having one end fixed to one of the discs and the other end fixed to the supporting base, and the other having one end fixed to the other disc and the other end fixed to a pulley block supporting the load. The hoisting cable extends from a winch, over the circular pulley, to the pulley block. The arrangement compensates for relative motion between the load and the supporting base.
Abstract: A counterbalancing hydraulic system for exerting a torque on a member such as a spud pile by means of at least two substantially identical hydraulic cylinders, piston rods of which engage the pile at a distance from one another, the pistons being subjected to pressure in opposite senses, while the portion of each cylinder remote from the piston rod communicates through a main displacer pump motor each with the portion of the other cylinder located on the side of the piston rod and the portion of each cylinder remote from the piston rod communicates through an auxiliary displacer pump motor with a medium reservoir.
Abstract: Method and device for braking the speed of movement of the piston of a plunger-cylinder device by choking the outlet of medium on the side of the piston approaching the end wall of the cylinder and by coupling the piston rod of the cylinder with the piston of a second plunger-cylinder device.
Abstract: A device for lowering a load for example a diving bell from a vessel from a spot above the water line to a spot beneath the water line, comprising a winch and a cable connected with the load and moved by said winch along at least one cable pulley rotatable about a shaft. In order to prevent that the cable becomes alternately slack and taut during contact of the load with the water, it is proposed to constantly maintain the taut state of the cable by placing the shaft of the pulley parallel to itself and connecting it with the plunger rod of a plunger cylinder provided with an accumulator.
