  • Patent number: 6596121
Abstract: A method for making a composite lined tube is disclosed, wherein the tube has end couplings on it. The method includes pressing a resin impregnated fiber preform progressively along an inner wall of the tube. In one embodiment, the method includes inserting an inflatable bladder into the tube. The bladder is adapted to inflate along a length thereof on application of increasing pressure to the interior of the bladder. The bladder has disposed on its exterior surface the fiber preform impregnated with resin which is adapted to fit within the tube. One end of the preform is secured to one end of the tube. The bladder is then inflated along its length by applying increasing pressure to the bladder. The preform is clamped to a shoulder of one of the couplings at another end of the tube, and the end of the preform is trimmed to conform to the shoulder. Pressure is maintained in the bladder while curing the resin. In one particular embodiment, the bladder is inflated from its center outwardly to its ends.

  • Patent number: 6387179
Abstract: Resin impregnation of fiber bundles for use in making a composite material is described. The impregnated fiber bundles are suitable for use as a prepreg tape or for inline use in extrusion, pultrusion and filament winding operations. The improvements of the disclosed method and impregnation head enable high fiber take-off speeds without excessive damage or fraying of the fiber bundles. Encapsulated air or voids in the impregnated product are consistently less than 1% by volume of the impregnated product and decrease with increased take-off speed. These improvements are achieved by passing the fiber bundles through a multi-chambered impregnation head in which the resin is injected into a downstream chamber. The cross sectional area of the fiber bundles, the velocity of the fibers bundles, the size of the openings to the chamber, the viscosity of the resin and the pressure at which the resin is pumped into the downstream chamber all control the pressure within the downstream chamber.

  • Patent number: 6361080
Abstract: A method is disclosed for coupling a stub end flanged connector to a fiber reinforced plastic pipe. The method includes tapering an end of the fiber reinforced plastic pipe on the outside surface of its fiber overwrap. An inside surface of a stub end connector is correspondingly tapered. The stub end connector is then bonded to the fiber reinforced plastic pipe. A liner of the plastic pipe is then flared to correspond to a flared end of the stub end connector. Then at least one stiffness transition layer is bonded over the plastic pipe and the stub end connection, over an axial span at least including a termination of the taper in the stub end connector.

  • Patent number: 6325159
Abstract: A system for drilling a subsea well from a rig through a subsea wellhead below the rig includes a wellhead stack which is mounted on the subsea wellhead. The wellhead stack includes at least a subsea blowout preventer stack and a subsea diverter. A drill string extends from the rig through the wellhead stack into the well to conduct drilling fluid from the rig to a drill bit in the well. A riser which has one end coupled to the wellhead stack and another end coupled to the rig internally receives the drill string such that a riser annulus is defined between the drill string and the riser. A well annulus extends from the bottom of the well to the subsea diverter to conduct fluid away from the drill bit. A pump has a suction side in communication with the well annulus and a discharge side in communication with the rig and is operable to maintain a selected pressure gradient in the well annulus.

  • Patent number: 6302128
Abstract: A rotary valve is opened and closed with a combination incremental rachet mechanism and a continuous motor mechanism. Two separate control circuits are used for opening and closing the valve. When the opening or closing circuit is energized alone, the valve is incrementally opened or closed by the ratchet respectively. When the opening circuit is energized and the closing circuit is subsequently energized, the valve is continuously opened by the motor. Likewise, when the closing circuit is energized and the opening circuit is subsequently energized, the valve is continuously closed by the motor.

  • Patent number: 6270127
Abstract: A threaded pipe connection is disclosed that includes a box member and a pin member. The box member has two wedge thread steps each with a tapered, internal, generally dovetail-shaped wedge thread having stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The pin member has two wedge thread steps each with a tapered, external, generally dovetail-shaped wedge thread having stab flanks, load flanks, roots, and crests. The internal thread of the box member increases in width in one direction. The external thread of the pin member increases in width in the other direction so that complementary flanks of the box member thread move into engagement during rotational make-up of the connection. • Patent number: 6206436
Abstract: In a threaded connector, a box member has at least two tapered, internal, generally dovetail-shaped threads. The internal threads each having stab flanks, load flanks, roots, crests and a wedge ratio and increasing in width in one direction. A pin member has at least two tapered, external, generally dovetail-shaped threads. The external thread has stab flanks, load flanks, roots, crests and a wedge ratio and increases in width in the other direction so that complementary roots and crests of the internal and external threads move into engagement during make-up of the connection in conjunction with the moving of complementary stab and load flanks into engagement upon make-up of the connection. The wedge ratio of one thread is an aggressive wedge ratio with a larger magnitude and the wedge ratio of the another thread is a conservative wedge ratio with a smaller magnitude.
