  • Patent number: 6145807
Abstract: A valve controlled by-pass stud mechanism for a structure defining a stud receptacle and having a bleed passage intersecting the stud receptacle and normally containing a pressurized fluid medium. An elongate stud body is positioned in sealed relation within the stud receptacle and has a vent passage and defines an internal valve seat located about the vent passage and also defines a valve receptacle having internal threads. A needle valve is in threaded engagement with the internal threads of the valve receptacle and is movable by its threaded engagement within the valve receptacle between a closed position in sealing engagement with the valve seat and blocking flow of pressurized fluid from the bleed passage to the vent passage and an open position spaced from the valve seat and permitting flow of pressurized fluid from the bleed passage to the vent passage.

  • Patent number: 5121872
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a coiled tubing/electrical cable assembly wherein a strip of metal and electrical cable are simultaneously withdrawn from storage reels and are moved through a manufacturing station where the metal strip is formed about the cable and welded to define coiled tubing. The electrical cable is guided into the tubing by a cable placement tube that also serves to conduct coolant such as air, water, etc. along the electrical cable to prevent its temperature degradation during the manufacturing process. The cable placement tube is of sufficient length to extend past the welding apparatus and through a heat treating furnace assembly and to provide an outlet for discharge of the coolant medium into the coiled tubing cable at a location downstream of the heat treating furnace.

  • Patent number: 4718487
Abstract: An auxiliary well pressure packoff assembly for wireline control valves is positionable within the downstream passage of a wireline valve body without requiring cutting of the wireline and receives the wireline in surrounded, sealed relation. A retainer closure positively retains the packing assembly within the valve body passage. An externally controllable mechanism is provided to displace resilient sealing material of the packing assembly to enhance the sealing relationship thereof with the wireline and valve body passage, thus providing an auxiliary seal to protect workers from hazards in the event well pressure should leak past the wireline control valve mechanism. The packoff assembly also clamps the cable to prevent it from moving and vents any leaked well pressure to a safe location. An automatic pressure activated self-energizing feature is provided which increases sealing capability of the system in proportion to increase in well pressure.

  • Patent number: 4577687
Abstract: A cable head catcher mechanism for use when running tools within a well and which catches the fishing neck of a wire line operated well tool in the event the wire line should become broken due to excessive force as the well tool reaches the upper limit of its travel within the well servicing apparatus. A segmented collet system within a pressure containing housing of the apparatus is operative to catch the fishing neck of a well tool to prevent the tool from falling in the event the wire line cable becomes broken. A sleeve piston is provided which operatively positions the segmented collet within the housing and is hydraulically energized to cause releasing movement of the collet to thus release the fishing neck of the well tool when desired. The mechanism is constructed to allow the cable head and cable to be installed without requiring cutting of the cable.
