    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose is a direct mode operation communication method and terminal which are used for flexibly switching to a suitable DMO mode according to different communication environments, reasonably using spectrum resources, and extending multimedia services. The method in the embodiments of the present invention comprises: establishing, by a first terminal, a connection with a second terminal via a first DMO mode, the first DMO mode being a narrowband DMO mode, a wideband DMO mode, or a wideband-narrowband fused DMO dual-mode; receiving, by the first terminal, a wideband DMO signal sent by the second terminal; determining, by the first terminal, whether the quality of the wideband DMO signal satisfies a preset switching condition; and if the quality of the wideband DMO signal satisfies the preset switching condition, switching, by the first terminal, the first DMO mode to a second DMO mode to communicate with the second terminal.
