Publication number: 20100238834Abstract: Systems and methods of Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) communication are provided. A particular system includes a VoIP endpoint. The VoIP endpoint is adapted to monitor a packet loss measure between the VoIP endpoint and a second VoIP endpoint during a VoIP communication using a first CODEC. The VoIP endpoint is also adapted to negotiate with the second VoIP endpoint to select a substitute CODEC having a nominal data rate that is lower than an in-use nominal data rate of the first CODEC.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2008Publication date: September 23, 2010Applicant: i2Telecom International, Inc.Inventor: Ali Awais

Publication number: 20090156222Abstract: Systems and methods of making calls are provided. A particular method includes receiving input indicating a destination address at a mobile communication device. The method also includes determining whether the destination address is of a predetermined type. The method further includes initiating a call to a communication bridge via a mobile communication network when the destination address is of the predetermined type. The method also includes sending an instruction to the communication bridge to initiate a communication connection to the destination address.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2008Publication date: June 18, 2009Applicant: I2TELECOM INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventor: Douglas F. Patent number: 7460480Abstract: A system and method for dynamically adapting the transmission rate of packets in real-time voice over IP communications to the available bandwidth. A real-time bandwidth monitor (RTBM) for VoIP applications senses the call path bandwidth between two endpoints of a VoIP communication and adapts in real-time the packet transmission rate to utilize that bandwidth. If sufficient bandwidth is available, the RTBM selects a low compression, low latency CODEC to offer best possible voice quality to the user. If the bandwidth is constrained, the RTBM degrades gracefully by switching to a high compression CODEC. On further bandwidth reduction, the RTBM increases the media frames per packet. Because the bandwidth reduction may be transitory, the RTBM constantly monitors the end-to-end available bandwidth so as to invoke the CODEC/frame per packet combination that provides the best quality of service (QoS) achievable over the current end-to-end available bandwidth.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2005Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: i2Telecom International, Inc.Inventor: Ali Awais

Patent number: 7336654Abstract: A voice over IP (VoIP) softphone access module (VSAM) comprises a softphone client installed on a portable memory device (PMD). The softphone client is installed in its own read-only partition. The softphone client is adapted to autorun from the PMD when the PMD is connected to a computing device and to load an instance of the softphone client in the volatile memory of the computing device. When used with a computing device comprising a duplex audio system with analog-to-digital conversion and an Internet connection, the VSAM permits a VoIP service subscriber to send and receive VoIP telephone calls through a VoIP service provider gateway. The VSAM may be associated with an activation code that when sent to the VoIP service provider gateway associates a user with pre-paid softphone usage credits. Alternatively, the softphone client is installed on CD.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2004Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignee: I2Telecom International, Inc.Inventors: Robb Barkley, Mark Baker, Douglas F.
