  • Patent number: 4954104
Abstract: An electrical contact terminal having a mounting section designed for press-fit insertion into a hole of a substrate such as a circuit board. The mounting section comprises an oblong base portion to which is secured at least one separately formed flexible fin. While the base portion and fin are both electrically conductive, they are not formed integrally from the same material and may be formed of two different materials. The fin or fins are secured to opposite sides of said base portion and are secured to said base portion at one or both ends. At one end, the fins are narrowed in width and thickness and secured to the base portion by means of electrical or laser welding. The fins may be mechanically clamped to the base portion at the other end. The terminals may be carried by a carrier strip and the fins may be preferably formed by punching a portion of said carrier strip and bending it around said base portion of the terminal to form parallel fins extending on opposite lateral sides of the base portion.

  • Patent number: 4954087
Abstract: An improved connector for connection to and identification and testing of electric components such as integrated circuits is described which features a number of spring biased contact elements normally in contacting relation with a shorting bar. When a particular component is placed in a specified physical relation to the connector, a combination of exposed electrical contacts and nonconductive elements on the component to be tested displace specified ones of the contact members away from the shorting bars, providing a connection pattern which can be detected. At the same time, test signals can be applied to the electric component to be tested. The circuit may be identified and its specific parameters identified and characterized in a single operation according to the invention. Advantageously, the shorting bar is grounded so that any static charge on the component to be tested is grounded before the contact elements are displaced from the shorting bar.

  • Patent number: 4952345
Abstract: Uniformity of properties of spun polyamide filaments is improved by treating flake polyamide with successive nitrogen gas streams, the first having a variable temperature and water content, and the second being dry but having a variable flow rate. Viscosity of the molten polyamide from a melter for the flake is determined by measuring differential pressure across a transfer pipe. The viscosity measurement is used by automatic control apparatus to control the flow rate of the second stream, and the moisture content of a make-up stream added to the first stream. The flow rate of the make-up stream is controlled to maintain the second stream within limits, and the temperature of the first stream is controlled to maintain the flow rates of the make-up and second streams within limits.

  • Patent number: 4952913
Abstract: A tag for use with an individual monitoring system. The tag is worn by an individual being monitored, preferably on the ankle or leg where it can be concealed by the clothing of the individual. The tag is fully self contained and sealed. The circuits of the tag periodically generate an identification signal that includes an identification code. The identification signal modulates a stable RF signal that is transmitted in bursts of data words to a receiver associated with a field monitoring device (FMD) located at the monitoring location. In turn, the FMD may randomly establish communication with a central processing unit (CPU) located at a central monitoring location. Other information is included in the identification code of the tag, such as information indicating that an attempt has been made to remove the tag from the individual. The tag is held in place near the skin of it's wearer by a conductive strap that wraps around the leg or other limb of the individual.
