Abstract: A water vapor-permeable, air-impermeable and water-impermeable sheet material comprises a film bonded to a fibrous substrate. The film comprises a reaction extrusion-processed blend comprising a first block copolymer which comprises a polyether block amide copolymer and a second block copolymer which comprises a copolyether ester. The fibrous substrate may be woven or non-woven, and may comprise polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, a polyamide, glass mat, felt, paper, or combinations thereof. The water vapor transmission rate of the extruded film is substantially higher than that of a film made from either one of the component block copolymers. The sheet material has uses which include housewrap, roofing underlayment, breathable apparel, desiccant packaging and others.

Abstract: A wrapper for wrapping a cylindrical roll of coiled material, such as coiled steel, is a one-piece wrapper which covers the outer periphery, the ends and the inner periphery of the roll. The wrapper has a first portion for covering the ends and outer periphery and a second portion for covering the inner periphery. Draw strings are provided at the longitudinal edges of the first portion for cinching the wrapper against the ends of the roll.

Abstract: An industrial packaging material comprises a woven scrim of stretchable thermoplastic tapes bonded to a stretchable non-woven water-impermeable layer. The scrim and the non-woven layer are made from a blend comprising a polyolefin and an elastomer. The thermoplastic tapes of the scrim have a degree of elongation before breaking in the range of 20% to 500%.

Abstract: A multi-layered sheet material for wrapping metal goods to protect them from corrosion during storage has a water impermeable and water vapor-impermeable outer layer comprising a coated woven scrim and a water-impermeable and water vapor permeable inner layer comprising a micro-perforated film. The inner layer incorporates corrosion inhibitors. The outer and inner layers are bonded along their longitudinal edges leaving a space between the layers into which water vapor can migrate away from the wrapped metal product.

Abstract: A sheet of material suitable for roofing or industrial wrapping applications has an anti-skid surface formed by ridges of twisted tapes. The sheet comprises a woven scrim of warp tapes and weft tapes. Some of the tapes are twisted about their longitudinal axis, for example about 25 to 400 revolutions per meter, to form ridges having a height substantially greater than the thickness of the tapes. The ridges impart an anti-skid surface to the sheet. The scrim is bonded to a coating or film to make the sheet waterproof.

Abstract: A sheet material with an anti-skid surface, suitable for use as a roofing underlayment or wrapper, comprises a scrim made of woven plastic tapes with monofilaments that are round in cross-section and have a diameter larger than the thickness of the plastic tapes interwoven with the tapes. The monofilaments form ridges on the sheet material that impart an enhanced coefficient of friction to it. The monofilaments may be incorporated in the weave in the warp or weft directions or both.

Abstract: A sheet of coated scrim in which the scrim is seamless and the sheet has a width greater than that available using conventional manufacturing methods. A tubular scrim is flattened, coated on a first side, then coated on a second side, with a part of the coatings overhanging on one edge of the scrim. The flattened and coated tube is then slit along the opposite edge and the sheet is opened. The coating overhangs form a ridge along one side of the sheet and the ridge contains no scrim.

Abstract: An apparatus for cutting lines of perforation in a sheet material, for example sheets of flexible fabric or wrapping material made of woven thermoplastic tapes or threads, has a pair of cutting blades spaced from each other and each having a plurality of teeth which are straight or oriented at an angle relative to the base of the blade and are generally parallel to each other. The angle of the teeth of the second blade is oriented in an opposite direction to the angle of the teeth of the first blade. The teeth of the second cutting blade are offset relative to those of the first blade.

Abstract: A multi-layer woven scrim, having two or more layers made of thermoplastic tapes, has its layers attached together by means of layer-connecting tapes interwoven with mutually perpendicular tapes of adjacent layers. The points of attachment may be at spaced intervals and in the machine or cross-machine directions. The scrim is flexible, dimensionally stable and has high tensile and tear strength. It can be coated and used as an industrial fabric.

Abstract: There is provided a sheet material having a walking surface with high slip resistance. The sheet material has a flexible structural layer laminated to a mesh layer which has interconnected reinforced strands and protruding nodes to impart a high coefficient of friction. The high coefficient of friction of the sheet material provides a roofing underlayment which is safe to walk upon in dry, wet or dusty conditions, and on steeply sloped surfaces. The sheet material may also be used as an industrial wrapping material or a fabric.
