  • Patent number: 9064356
Abstract: A method of implementing use cases includes associating a use case with each of a plurality of devices capable of being used or accessed by a user. The method also includes providing a plurality of stackable blades, each providing a standard physical interface and being configured to implement a solution to the use case associated with each of the plurality of devices. The method further includes stacking the plurality of stackable blades to form an interconnected stack. Each of the plurality of stackable blades are coupled using the standard physical interface. The method also includes executing a first purpose corresponding to a first use case and executing a second purpose corresponding to a second use case. Embodiments provide an electronic ecosystem featuring ubiquitous connectivity in which a standard contact array in each component of the ecosystem assures interoperability between heterogeneous devices.

  • Patent number: 8953327
Abstract: A device having a self-winding element is described. The self-winding element is built on a flexible membrane; it has an extended form and a retracted form. Stiffness in the extended form may be provided using membrane curvature, or a retractable support member may be used, or both. Transitions between the extended form and the retracted form are preferably accomplished using sequential activation of tensile members that are configured in segments of the membrane. Activation of the tensile elements is preferably implemented using a processor or controller that activates tri-state drivers in a predetermined sequence in order to pass a current through each element when heating is desired. A preferred material used for the tensile elements is thin film NITINOL.

  • Patent number: 8922511
Abstract: An electronic display may be provided in a cartridge that can be conveniently mated with a host device. The cartridge may comprise a touch display screen, driver and receiver circuits, an area contact array, and a molding encasing the cartridge except for a display viewing area and exposed contact points of the contact array. The contact array may provide an efficient interconnection interface to a host device, and this interface may be releasable for the case of a replaceable cartridge or module. By accepting less than optimal lifetime performance of the display screen but providing it inexpensively and in a module form that is easy to replace, lowered overall consumer costs may be achieved. Inexpensive manufacturing methods may comprise a roll-to-roll fabrication method for fabricating the touch display screen on a flexible substrate as well as transfer or injection molding of the cartridge.
