Abstract: An apparatus and method for filtering oil. The apparatus being an oil pan having an integrated oil filter unit, wherein part of the oil pan forms the bottom of the oil filter unit. The oil filter unit is fastened on the oil pan at least by means of a sealing component and one or more punch rivets. A method of fastening an oil filter unit on an oil pan, the method including introducing a seal and an adhesive between the oil filter means and the oil pan and joining the oil pan and the filter means, including the layer there between, by means of punch rivets.
Abstract: A multilayer composite filter medium for serial filtration with an onflow side and an outflow side with respect to a medium to be filtered, the filter medium comprising at least two filter layers of the same or different filter media and the filter layers being welded to one another at defined points and/or areas over the complete surface, and at least one filter medium being arranged on the onflow side and at least one filter medium being arranged on the outflow side. Further subject-matters of the invention are a method of producing the composite filter medium, use of the composite filter medium and a filter containing the composite filter medium according to the invention.

The flanges (18, 20) are in registered, abutting relationship with a laser weld bead (62) at the juncture (44) between the flanges (18, 20) to provide a fluid seal circumscribing the filter (10). The preferred filter manufacturing apparatus (12) includes a laser (54) coupled to a robot arm (50) controlled by a programmable logic controller (52). The method of making the plastic component including providing a first mold cavity having a portion for defining the body of the component and a communicating second cavity for defining the tubular extension, positioning an annular lip seal in the cavity defining the tubular extension, and injecting molten plastic resin in the first cavity and the second cavity to define the plastic component with the lip seal positioned on the tubular extension.
