Patent number: 6515655Abstract: A video display unit includes a built-in switched mode power supply and control means, responsive to the presence of one or more active sync signals (Hsync, Vsync), to switch on the display unit from the DPMS OFF mode, in which it consumes a minimum amount of power and to which it is switched in the absence of any active sync signal. Peak sensing circuitry detects that at least one sync signal is active, when switch is closed. A switch disconnects the SMPS controller from the start-up power source until the optocoupler is driven.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1998Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Hans Thörnblad

Patent number: 5859545Abstract: A buffer circuit for use between a two-way open-collector bus line and a device capable of reading the status of the bus line and driving it low. The device has a single input/output terminal to which is connected a line of the buffer circuit. The buffer circuit is such as to distinguish between three logical levels on the line, and in particular between two logical low levels (U.sub.a, U.sub.b), which correspond to the device or an input buffer driving the bus line low. The input and output buffers are comprised by respective comparators. The reference voltage for the output buffer comparator lies between U.sub.a and U.sub.b, whereby to achieve the distinction therebetween. When the output buffer comparator detects U.sub.a, it causes the bus line to be driven low.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Hans Thornblad

Patent number: 5818345Abstract: A system and method for protecting an electrically-powered article, particularly a computer system such as a personal computer, from theft by rendering it effectively useless to anybody but the rightful user/owner. The personal computer includes a power disruption indicator (21) to which electrical power must be applied even when the computer is shut-down (switched off at switch 12). The continuous power is normally provided by means of a mains-supplied power unit (10). In the event of mains supply discontinuities longer than a predetermined short time period, as would be the case if the equipment is stolen, subsequent start-up of the computer is prevented until a theft protection password is provided by a potential user. A separate power source, such as a capacitor (20), is provided to power the power disruption indicator for shorter time periods, such as when moving the computer within premises, and thus obviate the need to enter the theft protection password upon such occasions.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Peter Bertil Tom Sjooquist

Patent number: 5710817Abstract: In a method and a device for preventing unauthorised access to a computer system comprising at least one processing unit (1) or like, a disk unit (3), a display (5), and a keyboard (7), use is made of a floppy disk (9). Information in the form of a personal identification code containing the name of an authorised user and an access code encrypted by means of a one-way encrypting function, and an authenticity code formed by a system access code and at least the personal identification code are recorded on the floppy disk.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1995Date of Patent: January 20, 1998Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Peter Bertil Tom Sjooquist

Patent number: 5689671Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and to a computer system arrangement for producing a dialogue between a central computer unit and at least one user unit. The user unit includes at least one display means and a memory means and can be connected to the central computer unit. The central computer unit includes a central memory means in which there is stored a software part, called the dialogue part, which is intended for data processing requested by the user unit. Information concerning the text and/or picture for presentation on the display means is pre-stored in the user unit memory means and separate user units may be of different types. The information transmitted from the central computer unit to the user unit during a dialogue session includes at least one first identifier which corresponds to a message to be transmitted, wherein the first identifier points out a presentation object which corresponds to the message in the user unit memory means.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Fredrik Stromberg

Patent number: 5684996Abstract: A system and method for achieving unitary installation of software at each time software is installed in user units of a distributed computer system. A specially adapted recipe is created from a general recipe which has fewer questions than the general recipe, or even no questions at all. This requires less information, or no information, from the user. This specially adapted recipe may either be used to achieve unitary installation of a program product in a plurality of mutually similar units of a computer system. The method enables a specially adapted installation recipe or configuration recipe to be created which can be re-used for manually, semi-automatically or fully automatically creating, installing or reconfiguring software. This reduces the total work in creating and/or installing a plurality of software programs or reconfiguring existing software while being aware of how these were created and/or installed or configured.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1994Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventors: Ville Westerholm, Erkki Riekkola

Patent number: 5660065Abstract: A device for readily locking and unlocking a lock mechanism which is intended to hold a computer firmly locked to a unit. The lock mechanism is electronically controllable. The computer is provided with an electrical outlet, which can be connected to the lock mechanism, and a program for controlling the lock mechanism. The lock mechanism is intended to automatically lock the computer firmly to the unit when the computer is placed in position and also to normally hold the computer locked to the unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1994Date of Patent: August 26, 1997Assignee: ICL Systems ABInventor: Jan Edlund
