  • Patent number: 8876668
Abstract: A selectively inclining hiking exercise apparatus supports a user ambulating thereon. The selectively inclining hiking exercise apparatus includes a support base and a treadbase that selectively inclines with respect to the support base. The treadbase includes a motor for driving an endless belt upon which the user ambulates. The treadbase also includes a magnetic braking assembly for regulating the speed of the endless belt to prevent the endless belt from moving at a rate that is faster than the rate at which the treadbase motor is driving the endless belt. The magnetic braking assembly includes a magnet that selectively moves relative to the treadbase flywheel along a threaded lead screw to provide the braking force.

  • Patent number: 8870726
Abstract: An abdominal exercise device includes a support structure, a track movable relative to the support structure, and a body support member movable relative to the support structure and track. A locking mechanism attaches to the track, and selectively secures the track at a fixed orientation relative to the support structure. In a first state, the locking mechanism restricts the track from rotating relative to the support structure. In a second state, the locking mechanism allows the track to rotate relative to the support structure. In using the exercise device, the user may obtain any of three motions. A first motion is provided by sliding the body support member along the track. A second motion is provided by rotating the track relative to the support structure. A third motion is a combined motion in which the body support slides along the track and the track rotates relative to the support structure.

  • Patent number: 8845493
Abstract: Embodiments relate to exercise systems, and more particularly to exercise cycles and systems for generating exercise programs simulating real-world terrain. In accordance with at least some aspects, a stationary exercise cycle includes an incline mechanism adjusting the vertical and/or lateral incline of the stationary exercise cycle. The incline mechanism may respond to control signals that change vertical incline to simulate an ascent or descent of a hill, or a lateral incline to simulate a turn. A communication system may provide exercise programs to the exercise cycle by operating in connection with third party providers of topographical, map, or other information. Such information can be used to automatically determine corresponding incline or resistance changes, as well as visual information for an exercise program.

  • Patent number: 8840075
Abstract: Systems, assemblies, and devices for mounting an exercise apparatus to a door. More particularly, an exercise system is mounted to opposing corners of a door and directed diagonally across a door. A bracket engages the door corner and is oriented to directed tension members of the exercise system at a diagonal across a front surface of the door. The bracket includes a door mount for coupling the bracket to four surfaces of the door. The bracket includes an exercise device mount adapted to couple to tension members, pulleys, or other exercise devices. The exercise device mount defines a mounting axis that is non-parallel and non-perpendicular relative to a top edge surface of the door.

  • Patent number: 8808148
Abstract: An elliptical exercise machine includes a base support structure adapted to be positioned on a support surface. The machine includes first and second reciprocating foot supports, each foot support being movably linked to the base support structure. Additionally, a ramp assembly is situated on the base support structure, the ramp assembly having first and second guide rails for guiding the respective second ends of the first and second foot supports such that the foot supports move in an elliptical path when the elliptical exercise machine is operating. Moreover, a first support member is linked to the base support structure, wherein the first support member is pivotably linked to the ramp assembly at a point above the base support structure. Furthermore, a lift mechanism is linked on a first end to the base support structure and pivotably linked on a second end to the ramp assembly above the base support structure.

  • Patent number: 8784270
Abstract: A portable system retrieves one or more exercise programs from a remote communication system that provides motivational content for a user exercising upon an exercise mechanism. The exercise program further includes at least one control signal that controls one or more operating parameters of the exercise mechanism. The portable system includes a control device configured to retrieve the exercise program and deliver the motivational content to the user by way of an audio delivery device, while delivering the control signals to the exercise mechanism. A sensor communicates with the control device and tracks one or more measurable parameters of the user during the user's performance of the exercise program. Data representative of the one or more measurable parameters can be delivered to the control device for delivery to the remote communication system.

  • Patent number: 8771153
Abstract: An exercise weight system includes an exercise weight bar, a plurality of weights selectively connectable to the exercise weight bar, and a cradle for holding the exercise weight bar and weights. The exercise weight bar has a rod having a longitudinal axis and a selector positioned on the rod such that the selector is rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the rod. The exercise weight bar includes an engagement system that permits a user to selectively secure one or more weights to the rod. The engagement system includes one or more weight engagement members and a binary cam system that selectively moves the one or more weights engagement members between a first position and a second position to selectively engage or disengage various combinations of the one or more weights when the selector is rotated about the longitudinal axis of the rod.

  • Patent number: 8740753
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a frame, a resistance lever pivotably attached to the frame, a resistance engagement member moveably attached to the resistance lever, the resistance engagement member being positionable at a plurality of attachment points on the resistance lever, and a resistance element disposed adjacent to the resistance engagement member. The resistance element includes a deflection member having a first end and a second end, a first anchor attached to and positionally fixing the first end of the deflection member, and a second anchor attached to and positionally fixing the second end of the deflection member. When a force is input to the resistance lever, the resistance lever pivots about the pivot point and the resistance engagement member transversely engages the deflection member. The apparent resistance provided by the resistance element is adjusted by positionally adjusting the resistance engagement member along the attachment points relative to the anchors.
